Congratulations to our Highland Lassies who went and competed at state. They had a great season.
Congratulations to Highland Cheer who were recognized as the 5A academic state champions with a 3.8 GPA average and then to top it off went to state and swept all categories bringing home the 5A Cheer State Championship!!!! We are so proud of our cheer team and coaches. Go Highland Cheer!!!!!

Mr. Mark Van Orden was recognized on Saturday as ISU College of Business Teacher of the Game at the Idaho State Women's Basketball game vs. Eastern Washington. The College of Business chooses outstanding educators from Southeast Idaho and recognizes them during a specific home game. We are so proud of Mr. Van Orden for this recognition. It is well deserved, he is an outstanding educator. He teaches English and is our Head Cross Country Coach at Highland. Congratulations Mr. Van Orden.

Extra Curriculars'
Boys District Basketball starts tomorrow 2/15. We host the first game against Thunder Ridge here at Highland at 7pm. Madison and Idaho Falls play on the other side of the bracket. Go Rams!
For students interested in playing Tennis for Highland. There will be a meeting at lunch on 2/15 Tuesday and 2/16 Thursday of this week.

Highland Students & Families,
Happy
Valentine’s Day to everyone with big academic and college / career hearts. Here
are some things to keep in mind in the days and weeks ahead.
~
Just a reminder that Advanced Opportunities money ($4,125 per student) is
available for everything from Pharm Tech coursework and Adobe certification to
AP exams and dual-credit classes. Don’t leave Advanced Opportunities funds on
the table.
~
Because it is scholarship season, we want to remind everyone that a FAFSA has
to be completed in order for every student to be eligible for financial aid and
scholarships.
~
Scholarships and scholarship applications are a job that we hope every senior
has committed him or herself to between now and about April 1st.
Apply, apply, apply.
~
Highland High School FAFSA completion rate: 117 completed for a 34% completion
rate. This is good, but we can do better – particularly if we want our students
to earn scholarships.
~
The Idaho Opportunity Scholarship has a deadline of March 1st and a
FAFSA has to have been completed and submitted beforehand.
~
Parents and guardians, about scholarships, ask your employer if they offer
scholarships for the children of employees.
~
If your FAFSA has been submitted to your colleges, look on the Financial Aid
tab at each college to see what your award looks like. Accept any scholarships
that have been offered to you. In May you can decide where you plan to attend
and let that college know formally and properly.
~
We are going to start keeping a spreadsheet of every single scholarship offered
to our seniors, and we would ask students to stop by and let us know about all
the money they have been offered. Not that we’re in competition with other high
schools . . . but we are!

Impressive: 1,074 transcripts have been requested and sent thus far by 225
distinct and unique graduating students – that is 72 percent of the graduating
class! That. Is. Impressive.
~
The Construction Combine is coming up, an opportunity for any student (men and
women), 17 years or older, to learn basic construction skills on March 30th
and 31st. Each school in SE Idaho may take six students, so spots
are limited. The Construction Combine is a great chance for students to decide
whether the construction trades are a good fit for them. Students have to apply

JUNIORS Girls and Boys State
A fast-paced, hands-on experience which teaches Americanism and the Political Process. Attendees are divided into cities, counties and political parties; delegates participate in mock government by developing city responsibilities, running for political office and debating/passing legislation.

Girls State will be held June 12-17
Boys State will be held June 13-19
There is a cost to attend.
