This is the last week of the first trimester. We have finals on Wednesday and Thursday and no school on Friday for students. Friday will be a record day for teachers. Here is the schedule for finals days.

Choir and Band are both performing tonight at Highland High School. Choir will perform in the main gym at 7pm and Band in the auditorium at 6:30pm. Please contact the school with questions or concerns.
Our clubs at Highland High School are working to help meet the needs in our community. The International Cultural Appreciation Club led a coat drive at Highland and over 250 coats were donated. Thank you so much Highland Community for your generosity.
Highland Student Leadership joined in a campaign to raise money to give to the Pocatello Police Turkey Drive and raised over $3,300 to donate. Chief Roger Schei and Corporal Eric Stapleton received the check from Highland High Student Leadership. All the money goes to the Idaho Food Bank to help people in our community. Again, thank you Highland for helping with the needs in our community.

Extra curricular's
Coach Christian Colonel worked with Westmark Credit Union and the School District Athletic Facilities Committee to take the first steps in achieving his vision of building a Varsity Baseball Field at Highland High School. Thank you Westmark for donating $250,000 to realize this vision. This is money that will be used to benefit students in our school district and in our community for years to come. Again thank you Westmark, Coach Colonel, and the Pocatello Athletic Facilities Committee for all your hard work and support of student-athletes in our community.
Boys and Girls Wrestling practice starts today 11/15. Please come to practice for all who are interested.
Boys interested in playing boys basketball tryouts will be held Monday 11/15 and Tuesday 11/16. Freshman will be from 4-6pm and JV/Varsity from 6-8pm. Boys on the football team going to state will tryout next week after football is over. Please contact Coach Pearson for questions at

Highland Swim finished a great season with a bunch of PR performances at state. Alyah Jordan took 6th in the 50 Free. Ruby Jordan finished 6th in the 100 Butterfly. Girls 200 Free Relay took 7th with a PR and Girls 400 Free Relay took 10th with a PR. Great Job Highland Swim!!
Congratulations to Highland Football who will be playing for the state championship vs. Rigby High School on Friday at the Holt Arena at 8:15pm! Come support our Rams in the Championship Game! We are so excited for this amazing accomplishment and we are so proud of our coaches and players.

College and Career Advisors
Dear
Highland Students & Families,
There
won’t be any updates from us until the new trimester has begun, so we wanted to
give you somethings to do / consider over the Thanksgiving break.
Seniors, once you are accepted . . .
. . . to training or college programs, be sure
to establish an account at each school to check out the financial aid pages and
then apply to scholarships.
Once
again, the sequence of events is:

been accepted
Other
scholarships are available. Visit the college career advisors to learn about
other scholarships.
The FAFSA
We
are much encouraged to learn from seniors that they and their families have
completed the FAFSA. When you submit the FAFSA, you will get an email to say
that your FAFSA has been submitted. Once it has been processed, you will get
another email to say that it has been processed. Any student who might attend
career technical training, a 2- or 4-year college, hopes to attend college on a
talent or athletic scholarship HAS to complete a FAFSA. The college career
advisors stand ready to help students and families with the FAFSA process.
According
to the state of Idaho, which tracks and compiles FAFSA numbers, 43 Highland
students have completed the FAFSA, or 14 percent of the senior class. That
strikes me as low, but I will continue to provide updates. At any rate, please
DO complete and submit your FAFSA. Without a completed FAFSA, students cannot
be considered for financial aid or scholarships.
Juniors, Seniors => the ACT
The
state of Idaho will reimburse students who schedule and pay for the ACT (the
state already pays for the cost of one SAT test and will not pay for more than
one SAT). If you bring the confirmation email that shows a zero balance to one
of the college career advisors, we can get you reimbursement for the cost of
the test ($60). This is a new reimbursement program – for which we are all
grateful.
Gap Year / Study Abroad Experiences
Congress-Bundestag
Youth Exchange Vocational Program
Provides
high school graduates with a year in Germany, living with a host family,
participating in school or training program, and acquire hands-on work
experience as an intern at a German company. A fabulous opportunity.

Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program
This
program provides full scholarships to live with a host family and study in a
local high school for an academic year. This is another great opportunity for
Highland students who have benefitted from studying with exchange students here
in Idaho or who want to be well prepared for a mission call to another country.

The deadline to pre-order a yearbook for the 2021-22 school year is this Friday 11/19. Price for a yearbook is $65. For an additional $5 you can purchase a nameplate to personalize your yearbook. Please contact Mrs. Huelsman, the bursar, to purchase a yearbook.
Seniors, Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, now called Utah Tech University -- one of the most popular colleges for last year's class -- will be having its Idaho Open House on Tuesday, November 16th, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Sho-Ban Casino Hotel, Bldg B, in Fort Hall. Meet the admissions reps, ask about majors and programs, learn what is offered for financial aid and scholarships. There will be a drawing for a $500 scholarship.
Juniors and Seniors - The sign up form for the ASVAB exam is on the Counseling Center Google Classrooms. This is one of the best career inventories and can really be beneficial in helping you make some really important choices related to your future. Test date will be on December 9th @ 11:00 and pizza will be provided.
Preferential schedule changes are now open. The opportunity for these changes closes this Friday, November 19. Go to the Counseling Google Classroom and follow the link for preferential schedule changes, your counselor will make the changes they can. For any questions please contact them. They are also responding to emails. Check your schedule for any errors.
