IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Congratulations to Softball, Tennis, Track & Field, Golf, and Baseball who all competed at state this past week. Softball traveled to Post Falls and competed well until the tournament was cut short because of rain. In Tennis Chloe Stoddard and Carter Fellows took 2nd in mixed doubles, Cassie Stoddard took 3rd in women's singles, and Highland Girls finished 3rd in the state overall. Track and Field ran hard and did well competing. Dawson Moon placed in the top 10 for golfers in the state. Baseball finished 7th with 2 heartbreaking losses that came down to wire both times.
We have never been prouder of our Highland Rams in all our sports this season. Time for off season work to begin. That is when champions are made. Reminder Student Athletes to plan on continuing your strength training program over the summer with Coach Cade Ackley. The cost is only $20 for the whole summer! That is an amazing deal. Money should be paid to the Highland Bursar before you begin to participate. Off season work creates in season champions.

Highland's graduation will be held at the Holt Arena on Monday 6/3/19 at 12pm.
Reminder to all graduates and parents of the expectations for etiquette for the graduation ceremony. Failure to adhere to the expectations will result in being removed from the ceremony. We ask for your help in respecting the culture of the graduation ceremony and making sure it is a positive and inspiring event for all of us.
- Students will not be able to alter their cap or gown in any way.
- Noise makers and/or objects like balloons, frisbees, laser pointers, blow horns, beach balls, or anything distracting from the ceremony are not allowed.
- Students should be properly clothed under their robes.
- Anyone attending the ceremony needs to be aware that bags will be searched upon entrance to graduation and outside food, drink, and the prohibited items listed above will not be allowed.

All seniors who plan on continuing their education with a higher learning institute should request their final high school transcript before their last day of school on (5/24/19) with the Registrar at Highland High School. Before they can request their final transcript, their fees must be paid in full.
Reminder to parents/guardians and students. Please check the parent portal for outstanding student fees. Any unpaid balance will be sent to Bonneville Collections at the end of the year.

Volunteer families are needed in the Highland school district to host students, 15-18 year old boys and girls from many different countries. Students speak English, come medically insured with their own spending money for any personal and school related expenses. They attend the host family's local high school for a school year. 2018-2019 is the first
year that students have had the opportunity to earn the STEM diploma
designation. Out of 97 qualifying graduates district wide, 60 came from
Highland High School seniors. WAY TO GO HIGHLAND SENIORS!
Students who have
earned the STEM Diploma Designation have successfully completed all graduation
requirements established by Idaho and Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 to
receive a high school diploma and have met the following criteria:
Completed eight (8)
credits in mathematics
Completed eight (8)
credits in science
Completed five (5)
additional credits of the student’s choice in the areas of science, technology,
engineering, or mathematics.

REMINDERS
Summer School dates are set. First Session: June 11-July 3. Second Session: July 8-July 30. All students who need to make up credits will need to register with their school counselor before the end of the school year (May 31st). Summer school will be held at the New Horizon Center.
Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, in order to be in compliance with Idaho education law, the Pocatello/Chubbuck School district will be changing the way they issue credit for dual enrollment courses. Dual enrollment courses are courses in which a student can earn college credit while still in high school. In the past, each dual enrollment course taken would account for one high school credit, regardless of the corresponding credit level at the institution of higher learning. For example, a student taking English 101, a three (3) credit course at ISU, would receive one (1) high school credit on their high school transcript.. However, the law now requires that students receive high school credit at a ratio of at least 2:1 for dual enrollment courses. As such, the same English 101 course will now equate to one and a half (1.5) high school credits on the high school transcript. Likewise, if a student takes a dual enrollment course with a college credit value of four (4) credits, the student will receive two (2) high school credits. The Highland Foundation is dedicated to raising money to benefit Highland High School. For example, last school year the Highland Foundation was able to remodel the school library from funds that were donated through the foundation, bringing it up to date and making it a powerful resource for the school. There are some benefits you can recieve from donating money to the Highland Foundation. One benefit is that you are helping improve Highland High school. Also, there are a couple of tax benefits. Your donation(s) can be written off as an itemized deduction on your Federal Taxes. In addition, there is a specialized tax rebate that can be applied to State Taxes for donations to a non-profit/public school entity allowing for up to 1/2 back.
The foundation has been working to find ways that make it easier for you to give to Highland High School. The first step in this process is establishing a Venmo account. Venmo is an app that can be downloaded to your phone and facilitates the transfer of money from one to another. Once set up, it literally takes just seconds. The Highland Foundation bank account is attached to its newly established Venmo account allowing for donations to go directly to the account. The account handle name is @HighlandFoundation, you will see Melissa Nielsen's name (the school librarian) as she is the treasurer for the Highland Foundation. You can donate up to $2,999 in one transaction. Please type in where you want this money to be donated (English, Math, Wrestling, Football, Library, Etc). If you do not specify where then it will automatically be assigned to the general account and will not be earmarked for a specific area.
