HHS January 30-February 6 Letter from Administration

Dear Parent/Guardian, Student, and Highland Ram Supporter,


We are excited to celebrate some accomplishments achieved through hard work and dedication by HHS faculty and students this past month.  First, our Girls Varsity basketball team will be starting their district tournament this week, playing to see if they can go to state.  They are the #2 seed and play on Thursday night at 7pm at Highland High School.  On Friday night at the boys varsity game we will recognize our Senior Girls Basketball players.  We are excited for post season play!  Go Lady Rams!

Also, Mr. Travis Bell (Assistant Principal and Athletic/Activities Director) was chosen as district employee of the month and Highland student Brinley Kissel was chosen as High School student of the month.  We are proud of both Mr. Bell and Brinley.  They work hard, are selfless, and are examples of what a Highland Ram should be.

The Business Professionals of America Club, led by Mr. Matt Noble, had an amazing week last week while participating in a regional competition at ISU.  Thirty-five students qualified for state and 10 qualified in all events.  Also, 15 students were awarded the Diplomat Torch Award.  Great Job BPA students and Mr. Noble!

Speech and Debate took 2nd overall at the Madison Tournament over the weekend.  Cheerleading, also competing at Madison, swept all events except 1.  Boys Basketball continues to improve competing against Bonneville and Rigby this week.  Wrestling placed 4th at the Tiger Grizz and had an individual champ at Red Halverson.  They have their last home dual on Wednesday at 6:30pm vs. Madison.  Dance has also been competing with 5 first place finishes, 2 third place finishes and an overall banner.  Band continues to practice and compete having lots of success as well.  We are proud of each of the students in these programs and their coaches/directors.  The students put in countless hours of practice and grit.  They are awesome!

For the next month we will be focusing as a school on academic planning for the 2017-18 school year with 9th-11th graders.  Seniors will be reviewing checklists for graduation.  We will also be gearing up for the SAT and ISAT Exams.  Please communicate with your child about what they are learning and doing.

Senior Calendar Items-

• Focus on Academics-You can't graduate if you don't pass your classes, stay focused on school work.
• Herff and Jones Cap and Gown order-contact Ms. Fleischmann for assistance.
• Fill out diploma name card-contact Mrs. Burrup (registrar) for assistance.
• Turn in baby picture at front office for Senior Breakfast slide show.
• Parents interested in helping with Senior All Night Party please contact the school.

Senior College and Career Items-

• Gather Letters of Recommendation-signed copy, sealed and signed copies, electronic signed copy.
• Transcripts-get and/or mail, contact Mrs. Burrup (registrar)
• Apply for colleges, trade schools, tech schools, apprenticeships, etc.
• Meet with college, career, and/or military recruiters.
• Fill out financial aid information and apply for scholarships.
• Take or retake college entrance exams (SAT/ACT), military exams (ASVAB) or other tech/trade school exams, license exams or certification exams.
• Visit schools of interest, jobs of interest-shadowing and making contacts, career fairs, and tech/trade fairs.

There will be an important meeting on Tuesday 2/7 starting at 6:30pm in the HHS media center about local, state, regional and national scholarships.  Also, Herff and Jones will be in the commons area on Friday 2/3 at 12:30pm for graduate orders.  The prices continue to rise the closer we get to graduation.

HHS January 23-January 30 Letter from Administration

Dear Parent/Guardian, Student, Highland Ram Supporter and Incoming 9th Graders,

This week we have the district wide Incoming 9th Graders Fair. All 8th graders and their families are invited to visit Pocatello High School, Century High School and Highland High School on Wednesday, and Thursday nights. We are proud to be a part of the schools in our district. Incoming 9th graders making a decision on where to go to high school will make a good choice no matter where they go. Each school has dedicated teachers and administrators who care deeply about helping students learn and grow towards being prepared for college or career. Beyond this, our district leadership is the best the state has to offer. We have an amazing district focused on the needs of each student.

School-of-Choice paper work is to be handed in at the student's middle school front office no later than January 30th. Students wanting to change schools after that point will be required to fill out transfer paperwork and will be subject to the rules and regulations of a transfer student, including sitting out of athletics or activities for 365 days. Students who are choosing a school out of their boundary area must provide their own transportation (school busing will not be available). With questions or concerns please call the district office at (208)235-3211.

Highland High School formally invites all current 8th graders and their families to the Incoming 9th Graders Fair at Highland High School.  We are excited to have you come and visit.  We would love to have you as part of our school.  Highland has a deep tradition of excellence.  We strive to offer a comprehensive experience focused on preparing all students for future college and career success.

Highland High School believes deeply that Right Attitude Means Success. The ATTITUDES that lead to success and we seek to live as Highland Rams are:
