Just before spring break several of our art students at Highland High School participated in a local art fair/competition. Graduates ISU Academic Signing Day
For all graduates that were accepted and are planning to attend Idaho State University, there is a signing day to be held next Monday, April 3rd, during 1st period in the Highland Media Center. Parents and other family and special supporters are welcome to attend. Each student will get a formal invitation. For more details, please speak with the college and career advisors.

Students who signed up, the ISU Construction Combine will be held March 29-30th from 7:30am-5pm at the Home Depot parking lot in Chubbuck, ID.

School Calendar
On April 12th Juniors will be taking the SAT. All other students have an online school day that day and do not need to physically come to the school. The students not taking the SAT will have work to do online. On April 25th the Juniors then take the ISAT. This too is an online day for Seniors, Sophomore's and Freshman. The Juniors need to come to school, everyone else stays home for an online day. Please mark these dates in your calendar. It is essential for our Juniors to make it on April 12 & April 25 for their tests. Please contact the school with any questions or concerns.

Reminder to our Class of 2023 graduates...
Graduates and Parents interested in helping plan the all night party, there is a planning meeting this Wednesday, March 29th at 6pm at the Roller Hockey Rink (363 Pole Line Road).
Highland Prom is scheduled for April 22nd from 8:30-11pm in the Highland Main Gym.

Address Updates
If you have moved and need to update your address in Infinite Campus, please submit 2 current proofs of residency (utility bill, lease agreement, driver's license, etc.) to the registrar’s office. Highland sends out information on a regular basis to our families and it is important to us that you receive the information regarding your student and their success at Highland High School. Junior class Immunization Reminder
In the spring of 2019, the State of Idaho legislature changed the required immunization for all students entering the 12th grade to the following:
1 dose is needed if - Student admitted to 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year received their first dose of Meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine at 16 years of age or older, or if the student never received a dose.
2 doses needed if – Student admitted to 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year received their first dose of Meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine before the age of 16.
Please check with your child’s doctor or other agencies regarding these required immunizations.
Please fax updated immunization proofs to 208-237-1350 or email whitehel@sd25.us so we can update records and verify your student is in compliance with state requirements.

COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
Dear Highland Students & Families,
You thought it was spring? I see my tulips are trying to peek out, and I’ve said to them: Go back! Go back! Not yet! That is not the case for our students. We are glad you’re back and we look forward to being with you at a happy / hectic / celebratory time of the school year.
Here are some things to keep in mind and to put on your calendars.
Seniors, April 3rd => ISU Scholarship Awards Event
Mark your calendars! This event is a week from today.
On Monday, April 3rd, during the combined 1st hour / TA period, Idaho State University will be in Highland’s library with coffee, donuts, and beverages to formally award and recognize all our seniors who earned scholarships to ISU’s many programs and degree programs. Families are invited and the event will be live streamed. Fully 200 of our seniors earned scholarships to ISU, which is an astounding 60 percent of the senior class. Very impressive indeed. If you are a scholarship student, we will have an invitation for you that will be delivered to you at school.
This is a lovely recognition of our seniors’ hard work and we are grateful to ISU for kicking off the graduation season with such a nice event. Because the library is not a huge space, this event will be reserved for scholarship students, their families, Highland teachers and staff.
Your Scholarships – How Many & How Much. Please Share.
Senior Students & Families,
Throughout Tri 3, and before you can pick up your graduation regalia, we would like you to share with the CCAs where you were awarded scholarships (all the schools and programs), from ANY source (institutions, the state of Idaho, other outside funders), and the amount of each scholarship. This includes the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship. We’re keeping a spreadsheet.
The data that is collected – which reflects only institutions and other scholarship fund totals at each institution, and NO personal data – is shared with both school district administration and the State Board of Education. That data serves to support the presence of CCAs in our schools.
Get us your scholarship information in any form that is easy for you (an email, a note, a scribble on a paper napkin) and we’ll enter it into our spreadsheet.
This is a good exercise for seniors because listing the scholarships you earned is absolutely a resume item and an endorsement of your high school efforts, academic and otherwise.
Service Academies Information Session – Saturday, April 22nd
First-year, sophomore, and junior students, if you are at all interested in applying to one of the U.S. military service academies – West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy -- mark your calendar for Saturday, April 22, from 3 to 5 pm (it does NOT overlap with Bengal Visit Day, below) at Pocatello City Hall. Academy liaisons will be there to answer questions, guide you in earning a congressional nomination, and give you information about the timeline. Junior students should be well begun on the process at this point, but they will have the chance to meet in person with academy representatives and congressional staff members, which is a bonus. No RSVP is necessary. Ask the CCAs if you have any questions.
Bengal Visit Day – Saturday, April 22nd
Not sure I would have put this in the blog so far in advance, but since a goodly number of our juniors indicated an interest in touring at Idaho State University, we want all our juniors and our seniors to know about Bengal Visit Day. This all-day event (8 am to 3 pm) includes sessions related to academics, clubs and organizations, campus and housing tour, and special sessions. It all wraps up with tickets to the spring football scrimmage. Follow the link below and then select “RSVP Now.”

The Numbers
Just checked Highland’s FAFSA completion portal. We have 165 submitted and completed FAFSAs or 45 percent of the senior class. That is already 23 more FAFSAs than were submitted in all of last year.
We want seniors and families to know that the FAFSA will help your student earn financial aid and scholarships whether he or she is going to pursue career technical education (like ISU’s College of Technology) or will pursue a bachelor’s degree and go on to graduate school. The first time you do a FAFSA, it can feel, well, big. But the college career advisors are here to help. It is not (at all) too late to start, complete, and submit your FAFSA to training programs or colleges.
The spring break should have given all of us the respite and the gumption to go forth toward the home stretch of the academic year with our best energy. Onward!
