A reminder that second trimester finals will occur on Wednesday 2/27/19-Thursday 2/28/19.
Students will not, under any circumstances, be able to take finals earlier than the dates assigned.
We understand that there will be extenuating circumstances due to medical, legal or other events that infringe on this time that cannot be controlled or determined. As a result, students who may be gone during any of their finals have the first week of school after finals to make up what they have missed. This time must be setup by the student with the teacher of the class of the final the student missed. Students who miss their finals will be recorded as having a score of 0 on their final. After the student makes up the final they have missed a grade change will be submitted.
Reminder to students and parents that the expectation for finals is that students will remain in class during finals and will not be able to checkout during class time. This time has been reserved for students to complete finals and will be protected as such. This will minimize distractions and create the best possible environment for assessment. All the high schools in the district seek academic excellence and creating an appropriate environment for assessment is essential in helping students perform at their best.

COUNSELOR'S/COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
March 7th
Junior students will have the opportunity to meet with and learn more about the
various colleges around Idaho at Higher Education Day. The morning will consist
of three different breakout sessions where students will choose which college
they would like to learn more about. The college’s in attendance for the day
will be: Boise State University, Brigham Young University-Idaho, College of
Southern Idaho, College of Eastern Idaho, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark
State College, University of Idaho. We will also have the Marines, Army, Navy,
and National Guard present to meet with students.

Registration
materials for the upcoming year were distributed in TA/Homeroom today. Please
ask your student about this information. Counselors were in 9th and
10th grade math courses and in 11th grade English courses
reviewing the Academic Planning process and discussing new features with
students the past two weeks. Your student(s) will have an extended TA/Homeroom
on both March 4th and March 11th to continue to work on
and finish planning for next year. Please review this process as well as their
class choices with them. Their Academic Planner can be accessed through their
Infinite Campus account.
This month’s
Sexual Harassment presentation was given in TA/Home room. Thank you to RAM TV
and the students who created the videos that were shown. Please contact Cali

Your
student has the opportunity to go to the College of Southern Idaho’s
Ropes/Challenge Course on April 9th. If your learner is interested,
please have them sign up with their TA instructor so they can obtain the
required risk, release, & field trip forms which will need to be filled out
by parents/guardians. Students will have to pay $10 to go on the team building
trip, which can be paid to the bursar.

ALEKS
Testing for sophomores/juniors planning on taking Math/Science dual enrollment
courses in Fall 2019. The testing times will be April 22nd, May 6th,
and May 20th after school at 2:45 in the media center. Please
encourage your student to sign up to take this test so they can be eligible for
the dual enrollment course in the fall. Math/Science courses require a certain
SAT score to be eligible to take the course, the ALEKS gives those students who
do not score high enough to take the courses as well. To view prerequisite

This gives the incoming first year students the opportunity to sign up for

The Highland Foundation is dedicated to raising money to benefit Highland High School. For example, last school year the Highland Foundation was able to remodel the school library from funds that were donated through the foundation, bringing it up to date and making it a powerful resource for the school. There are some benefits you can recieve from donating money to the Highland Foundation. One benefit is that you are helping improve Highland High school. Also, there are a couple of tax benefits. Your donation(s) can be written off as an itemized deduction on your Federal Taxes. In addition, there is a specialized tax rebate that can be applied to State Taxes for donations to a non-profit/public school entity allowing for up to 1/2 back.
The foundation has been working to find ways that make it easier for you to give to Highland High School. The first step in this process is establishing a Venmo account. Venmo is an app that can be downloaded to your phone and facilitates the transfer of money from one to another. Once set up, it literally takes just seconds. The Highland Foundation bank account is attached to its newly established Venmo account allowing for donations to go directly to the account. The account handle name is @HighlandFoundation, you will see Melissa Nielsen's name (the school librarian) as she is the treasurer for the Highland Foundation. You can donate up to $2,999 in one transaction. Please type in where you want this money to be donated (English, Math, Wrestling, Football, Library, Etc). If you do not specify where then it will automatically be assigned to the general account and will not be earmarked for a specific area.

The Idaho Legislature recently passed a bill allowing for a STEM designation to be included on a student’s high school diploma. Students who successfully complete all graduation requirements established by the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District may receive a high school diploma designated as a STEM diploma if they meet the following criteria:
· Complete eight (8) credits in mathematics
· Complete eight (8) credits in science
· Complete five (5) additional credits of the student’s choice in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
Students who are interested in applying for the STEM diploma designation can see their counselor for an application. Applications must be completed and returned to the school registrar prior to May 1, 2019.
