The Senior All-Night Graduation Party will be held at the Mountain Events Center Friday May 25, 2018 starting at 10:30pm. The party is planned and executed entirely by parents and we'd love to have as many as possible involved for one last great high school memory for the graduates! It is that time of year. Welcome in the holiday's by visiting the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District #25 Festival of Trees at the ISU Performing Arts Center. The event is Wednesday 11/29/17-Saturday 12/2/17. General Admission is $5, Seniors 65 and older are $3, Children 5-17 years old are $3 and 4 and under are free. A family pass for up to 5 people is $15. Come enjoy all the beautiful trees, wreaths, gingerbread houses, etc. All items are donated by local schools and auctioned off. All proceeds go to the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District Education Foundation and is used to enhance learning through technology in our district!

Highland High School is built on a tradition of excellence. We believe that excellence is defined as continual improvement, getting better everyday. We are focused on improving every aspect of our school. There are 3 methods we are using to organize and drive our improvement efforts.
First, all of our professional development activities for the next 5 years are based on what current research has identified as best practices to enhance learning. This year we are focused on deepening our understanding and implementation of the formative assessment process and improving our collective efficacy. We are involved in 2 book studies to guide these efforts. The first book is called Formative Assessment: Making it Happen in the Classroom by Margaret Heritage. The second book is entitled Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown. Both were strategically chosen to have a specific impact on teaching and learning at Highland High School.
Second, we have an established school leadership team. The members of the team are divided into 4 groups that oversee different areas of the school, namely: 1) Establishing a Culture of Excellence; 2) Academics/Maximizing Learning; 3) Relationships: Staff, Students, Parents, Community; and 4) Facilities.

The Highland Leadership Team meets together monthly to discuss our progress towards our goals, obstacles we face and how to overcome them, and we plan to continually improve. Each team is driven by short and long-term goals. The minutes from these meetings can be found in the area of this newsletter with all the important links of Highland High School. Third, data collection is essential for improvement. We want to know where we are weak and where we are strong. To accomplish this we gather data from several different sources. We take time in our leadership team and with teachers to analyze the data and put it in actionable form. We are continually seeking to become more effective in the data we collect, analysis and action from what we learn.
Beyond these three base areas, we are continually exploring other ideas for improvement. We are continually building upon past mistakes, failures, and successes. We appreciate your participation, feedback, and support as we continue on the journey of continual improvement towards excellence.

Be sure and purchase your $2 Ticket or Tickets for the Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello Raffle benefiting Athletics and Activities. Last year a Pocatello High School parent won a brand new Dodge Dart all expenses paid including taxes. Over $56,000 was raised for school activities in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District in last years raffle. Support athletics and activities again this year and buy raffle tickets for $2 for the chance to win a new Jeep Renegade worth $25,000 donated by Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can buy. All expenses for the car are covered, including taxes. All proceeds go to school athletics and activities. Tickets are on sale until May 21, 2018 and the drawing will take place at the new Lithia Dealership in Pocatello on May 31, 2018. Contact the school bursar to buy tickets (208)237-1300 and/or look to buy tickets and see the car on display at home events throughout the school year.
