Another wonderful month as a Highland Ram! We are so proud of all of our fall activity and athletic programs.
Band had an amazing month taking 2nd place at the Wasatch Invitational, 1st place sweeping all captions at the ISU Mountain West Competition, 2nd place and the outstanding music award at the Bridgerland Invitational at Utah State and 2nd place and another outstanding music award at the Southern Idaho Band Showcase at Minico and to close out the season the band finished 2nd and again took the outstanding music award at the Bands of America Regional Tournament in St. George, UT.
Our drama program just completed their first play of the year Writing a Will Can Be Murder. The students provided an amazing performance and we look forward to the next one.
Trouveres completed their first choir performance of the year with Cabaret. It was very entertaining.
In sports, Girls Varsity Soccer wrapped up a great season by going to state. They lost their first game and won their next two. They finished the season by defeating Madison for the Consolation Championship and bringing home a trophy!
Both Boys Varsity Soccer and Girls Varsity Soccer finished as 5A Academic State Champions.
Volleyball, and Cross Country finished up with great seasons.
Varsity Football is in playoff mode. We had a bye first round of the playoffs and we will play Mountain View in the 2nd round at the Holt Arena on Friday November 5th at 5:30pm. A win would put us in the semi-finals possibly against Eagle. Our team has had a great season, and we are excited to experience the playoffs with them.
During half time at the Varsity Playoff Football Game, this Friday at Holt Arena at 5:30pm, Coach Warren Whitaker and Coach Chris Frost will be honored with a lifetime sports/activities pass for the years of service they gave to Highland High School. Coach Whit and Coach Frost we appreciate and honor you. Thank you for all you have done to make Highland what it is. We hope to live up to the legacy you have left behind. Again, thank you and we look forward to sharing this honor with you during half time at the game.
We are so proud of all of our programs at Highland High School. What an amazing fall. Our students are so talented and it is great to see them grow and share those talents. We appreciate all the time our coaches and directors put in. We are excited for winter athletics and activities to get rolling in the next couple weeks.
Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello has provided all three high schools with an amazing opportunity. They are donating a brand new Dodge Dart worth $25,000 to be raffled off all expenses paid, including the taxes. Raffle tickets cost only $2 each and there is no limit to the number of tickets you can buy. Tickets will be on sale until March 24th, 2017. The drawing will take place March 31st, 2017 at the new Lithia Dealership in Pocatello. Students participating in athletics and activities will be selling the tickets. The tickets will be on sale at different events, for example, you can buy tickets and see the car on display at the Highland Football game this Friday at the Holt Arena at 5:30pm. You can also purchase tickets by contacting the school directly. We appreciate all of our students who did such an amazing job taking the PSAT, attending the majors and minors fair at ISU and participating in a day of service. It was an awesome day. Thanks to all those who helped make it a success, especially the students! They did amazing work touching up paint and cleaning around the school, reading to elementary students, clearing almost an acre of weeds at the Wellness Complex, and more. We hope to repeat the experience in the spring.
Our students continue to strive to do good in the community. The Highland Junior Civitan and Natural Helpers with the help of the Army have organized a food drive competition they hope will continue each year. This year Pocatello High School has joined in the competition. The competition will run for 1 week, starting October 31 and ending November 4. The Army will provide a trophy that the winning school will keep until next year's competition. The food donated will go to filling the schools food pantry for students in need and it will be distributed among the local resources that provide food for those in need in the community. On Monday November 7th we are pleased to hold our annual assembly honoring our Veteran's. We appreciate the service of those in our nation and local community. We recognize our rights and freedoms are a direct result of their selflessness. We thank all of our Veteran's and we honor you for your service. We urge you check your students grades on Infinite Campus, as we close out the trimester. Finals will take place on November 9th and 10th (see the finals schedule below). The trimester ends on Thursday, November 10, and students will not have school on record day Friday, November 11. The school counselors will be addressing required schedule changes the first 3 days of the 2nd trimester. Preferred schedule changes will addressed before school and at lunch during finals week November 7-November 10, as well as on record day November 11 until noon. Schedules for the 2nd trimester will be handed out on Monday November 7. Also reminder to check Infinite Campus for and pay any outstanding fees you may have from the first trimester. Highland's College and Career Advisor's are holding a "fill out your FASFA" night in the media center at Highland High School on Tuesday November 1st at 6:30pm. A light refreshment will be available and we encourage those interested to attend. Also, coming up soon is college application week where Advisor's will be helping students fill out applications to the different college's or universities they are interested in attending. Also, the Advisor's have been working hard to provide a scholarship list for students and it is now available for access on the district website at the following link= https://sites.google.com/a/sd25.us/schools/scholarships.
