The School Board made the decision to remain in the hybrid model. The plan is to have all middle and high school students return to school 5 days a week starting 3rd trimester on March 1, 2021. The School Board will reevaluate this decision towards the end of February and make a final decision at that point. We appreciate our school board and their leadership in a time of such difficult decisions. Thank you for working to keep us as safe as possible.
Reminder that tomorrow, 1/12/21 is midterm, half way through the 2nd trimester. Eligibility of students participating in extracurriculars will be checked and if not eligible they will not be able to participate until they become eligible.
Also, reminder we do not have school on Monday 1/18/21 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Because we do not have school on Monday 1/18, A Day students will be required to attend school on Friday 1/22/21. The same thing will happen on President's Day in February. Here is a calendar of the schedule for next week and for the week of President's Day in February.

We wanted to congratulate Coach Cade Ackley who was chosen as the Idaho Strength and Conditioning Coach of the year. Coach Ackley works with so many students to improve their health, strength, and nutrition. He does this with both students involved in sports and those who are just interested in pursuing good healthy habits. It is impossible to take his class and not get stronger and more healthy. His program at Highland High School extends throughout the summer reaching every sport from
cheerleading to volleyball, to wrestling, to football with nutrition, strength,
and conditioning. This off-season program has been extremely beneficial and
others have taken notice. Schools from around Southeast Idaho have contacted
Coach Ackley to come and run programs for their student athletes throughout the
summer as well. Our own school district has him conduct district wide trainings
for all Physical Education teachers. His expertise is recognized and highly
sought after. Congratulations Coach Ackley. The countless hours you spend helping others improve is well recognized and deserved. We are proud of your work and accomplishments.

State of Idaho Career Fair

Thursday, February 11th (from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), the state of
Idaho Department of Education, GEAR UP (the career technical program in Idaho),
and Junior Achievement of Idaho are sponsoring a virtual career fair for any
Idaho student 13 years old or older. Follow the URL below to register and make
ready. It is FREE. This is an invaluable opportunity for our students to
explore, do research, and ask themselves the reflective questions that will
help them consider what makes a career and work both satisfying and
rewarding.

NACAC College Fairs – Five of Them !
The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is holding five college fairs – all virtual – in the months ahead, and more will be added. Students can select the colleges they want to “visit,” get a “tour,” ask questions, examine programs of study or extra-curricular activities. This is a great, one-stop opportunity for juniors and seniors alike. Both U.S. and overseas colleges will be featured.
Jan. 31: 1 to 7 p.m. ET – 538 colleges
Feb. 28: 1 to 7 p.m. ET – 547 colleges
March 7: 1 to 5 p.m. ET - STEM Fair
March 21: 1 to 7 p.m. ET – 564 colleges
May 2: 1 to 7 p.m. ET – 490 colleges

Scholarships
What season is it? Scholarship season . . . and it can be competitive, so get in the game now. Contrary to popular belief, scholarships are available to students of all stripes, GPAs, and goals. You don’t have to be a brain to earn a scholarship. But you DO have set yourself down and search for / apply to scholarships. Over the next four months, new scholarships will open up every day – some of them are well-known annual scholarships and some are new in response to educational challenges presented by COVID. Let the college career advisors help you identify your scholarship strategy. First order of business? Buy a single subject spiral-bound notebook to keep track of your various scholarship research, efforts, dates, possible $.
Construction
Combine
ISU’s College of Technology and local businesses will be holding its annual Construction Combine on March 31 and April 1st. Only 6 students from each high school will be accepted. Applications are required. Follow this URL: constructioncombine.org

young women and men to try out entry-level construction work. Gives an inside
look at the building trades, construction management, and human resource

After-Graduation Mission
Going on a mission after graduation? If
so, we encourage seniors to apply to college and scholarships before
leaving on mission. We can explain all the reasons why, but mostly it is to
ensure a smooth and successful transition back to home and Idaho after your
valuable mission experience.
