Reminder, please contact the school if your student is being quarantined or has tested positive for COVID-19. From the front office we work with verification of attendance and notification of teachers so that your student can continue their learning online until they are cleared to return to school. The expectation is students will continue with their schooling online as long as their health permits them to. Please contact school administration or a school counselor with questions or concerns.
National Honors Society invitation letters have been sent
out. Sophomores and Juniors with a 3.6 or higher GPA have been invited to join
NHS. The application is due Sunday, December 13th at 11:59 pm.

Our Junior Civitan and Key Club have combined forces for our annual holiday season canned food drive. The students in these clubs, along with their advisors, have joined our community in working hard to provide the best holiday's possible for everyone. Please join forces with the efforts of our Junior Civitan and Key Club by dropping off donations of food items to Highland High School. Also, you can donate money online at https://idahofoodbank.org/junior-civitan/ Thank you for your support of all those in our community. We are proud of these clubs and their efforts to look outside themselves and provide service. All items need to be donated by 12/4/20.

For those looking ahead, dates for winter break are 12/21/20-1/1/21. A day students will be back in school and B Day students will have school remotely on Monday 1/4/21.

Some
items of note from the friendly neighborhood college career advisors (Jordi and
Sarah). Here goes:
Ø ALEKS testing will be offered again this Friday,
December 4th, at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Media Center. An ALEKS
score is needed for some dual-credit math and science classes. This will be the
last ALEKS opportunity for this trimester. Come to College Career area in C-36
to sign up before Friday.
Ø Seniors: Have you submitted your Apply
Idaho application? Some students have started but not finished /
submitted it. If you have, watch your e-mail for admission notifications. The
sooner students apply to college, the sooner they can begin to apply for
institutional scholarships.
Ø FAFSA stands for Free Application for
Federal Student Aid and it is an analysis of a family’s ability to contribute
to the cost of college. Even if you feel you may not qualify for federal grant
monies, ALL colleges expect you to file a FAFSA to be considered for financial
aid and scholarships. Do NOT delay. Let us know how we can help you get your
FAFSA finished and submitted.
Ø Interested in Dixie State
University or other colleges out of state or not on the Apply
Idaho platform? Stop by the college career area. Bonus!!! If you are interested
in applying to Dixie State, the college career advisors have a Dixie
State application fee waiver code that will be good for this week only.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained – stop by and we’ll help you submit your
application to Dixie (for free) this week.
Ø Have you had word back from the colleges
you’ve applied to? Again, visit the college career advisors so we can direct
you to each school’s scholarship webpages. The best, and
easiest, scholarship money can be found at the colleges to which you’ve been
accepted.
Ø If you are in any dual-credit
classes, please go on to the college’s website to see if you ARE
registered and enrolled in it. Then request your state funding (or else you and
your family will get a bill, which is a drag).
Ø Do you have a resume?
Do you need one? Absolutely. Let us help you with that.
Ø Do you have a boilerplate
scholarship essay? No?!?! Let us help you brainstorm ideas and editing
of text.

The counseling center has started a google classroom in order to make accessing information and resources easier. The classroom code is C22SK7K.
There is a specific counselor's google classroom for information for graduates. The classroom code for graduates is 3BWSNGP.
Any Juniors and Seniors interested in taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery assessment can sign up through the counselor's google classroom. The exam is a heavily researched and well-respected career inventory and aptitude test from the Department of Defense. It is used for the Armed Forces, but it is a beneficial exam for all students regardless of their intent or interest with the military. The exam date is 12/4/20 at 11am at Highland High School.
Students interested in joining the Haywire Robotics Team, the information is available on the counselor's google classroom.
