Congratulations to all of our fall activities. Marching Band, Swim, Cross Country, Volleyball, Drama, Girls and Boys Soccer, Football, Cheer, and Dance all had successful practices, seasons/events, performing and competing amongst the best in our region and in the whole state. We are so proud of our students and coaches/directors. We appreciate all the support with all the rules and requirements inflicted on us all because of COVID-19. We also appreciate all the work by our Athletic Director Mr. Travis Bell for advocating for our students and working tirelessly to ensure that they can continue to participate in extracurriculars. Great job to all who made the fall season and events happen! Winter sports are already starting up. Girls basketball has their first game this weekend at Minico High School. We are excited for the upcoming seasons and events that the winter months bring.

We made it to the end of 1st Trimester! Finals will be held with B Day students on Wednesday 11/11/20 and A Day Students Thursday 11/12/20. Students will not have extended class periods for finals, we will follow a normal bell schedule. If a student cannot attend school for their finals because they are quarantined, please have them email their teacher and make arrangements for completing out the 1st trimester. Contact school administration with any questions or concerns.
2nd Trimester begins on Monday 11/16/20. There is no school for students Friday 11/13/20 because of record day. We will not be printing schedules for students. Please have them check Infinite Campus to see their schedule for 2nd trimester.

The School Board has decided that for 2nd trimester we will be continuing with the current hybrid model we instituted during 1st trimester. Also, there has been a change to the hybrid schedule for 2nd trimester. A day students will attend Monday and Wednesday at school. B Day students will attend Tuesday and Thursday at School. Friday all students will have school virtually in addition to their other 2 virtual days for the week. This new schedule begins on Monday 11/16/20. The school board of trustees will meet after 6 weeks, at midterms, and review the decision. Please contact Highland Administration with any questions or concerns.

We will not be having a Veteran's Day Assembly this week, but we will be broadcasting a pre-recorded ceremony that we will make available in order to honor those who have sacrificed for our freedoms. We are so grateful for this opportunity each year to remember and recognize those who have served and who currently do serve in our Armed Forces.

The counseling center has started a google classroom in order to make accessing information and resources easier. The classroom code is C22SK7K.
Counselors will not be meeting with students to make schedule changes for the 2nd trimester. Instead, students need to fill out a form available on the counselors google classroom and the counselor will then make the change.
There is a specific counselor's google classroom for information for graduates. The classroom code for graduates is 3BWSNGP.
Any Juniors and Seniors interested in taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery assessment can sign up through the counselor's google classroom. The exam is a heavily researched and well-respected career inventory and aptitude test from the Department of Defense. It is used for the Armed Forces, but it is a beneficial exam for all students regardless of their intent or interest with the military. The exam date is 12/2/20 at 11am at Highland High School.

Dear Seniors & Family of Seniors,
STATISTICS:
Ø Size of the senior class: 383.
Ø Number of seniors who have completed and submitted their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is required for all students to be considered for scholarships and / or institutional financial aid): 24. These all would have been completed in October – which is great – but we want to challenge all seniors and families to make FAFSA completion a priority. Look on the Google classroom for seniors for the November goal. Let’s get to half the class by the turn of the new year.
o Why do the FAFSA? Because whether you are pursuing career-technical training, an associate’s degree, four years of college, or career specific programs such as the CNA, the FAFSA gives the student access to both scholarships and financial aid.
Ø Number of seniors who have requested transcripts? 58, some of which are students making multiple requests. Students are having transcripts sent to ISU, CSI, the BYU schools, Boise State, Utah colleges, and most of the schools on the Apply Idaho platform.
o Your applications to college or career-technical programs are not complete until you submit your transcripts. You may want to RE-submit transcripts after SATs are posted to your Highland transcript if those test scores will help you win scholarship monies.

Ø Create a resume. It may seem a stretch for high school students to have a resume, but when students apply for jobs, are being considered for volunteer work on internships, are asking for recommendations from teachers or employers, a resume will be critical. The college career advisors will be glad to assist / brainstorm / show resume templates / offer feedback.
Ø Focus on your studies. A strong senior year demonstrates your readiness for work, the military, or any kind of higher education.
