Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
On Thursday October 7th and Friday the 8th students will not have school due to state teacher inservice days. Teachers will be participating in professional development training and contacting or meeting with parents/guardians. Please contact school administration with any questions.
All Sophomore's and Juniors who signed up and paid are scheduled to take the PSAT exam on October 13th, 2021. At Highland we will be testing over 600 students. All Freshman, Junior and Senior students not taking the exam will not come to school on October 13th. They will have a virtual day where online work is assigned. Please contact Mrs. Santos-Smith in the counseling center with questions or concerns.

National Honors Society
We have 100 new members of the National Honors Society. All new members and their families are invited to the induction of new members. Induction is tonight, Monday 10/4/21, at 7pm in the Highland Auditorium.

Message from the Registrar

School District 25 uses the Infinite Campus Portal
which allows parents to login and access their
student's grades, class attendance, assignment information and
related messages from the school and teachers. When you create your
account you will be linked to all of your students district wide no matter what
SD#25 school they attend. The parent portal is designed to
increase communication with teachers, allow you to check progress, see
what's due and when, and to help give you more tools to ensure that your
student is successful in school.
If you do not already have an account and would like to activate
your account please email our Registrar (whitehel@sd25.us) with your name and your
HHS students name and we will get your individualized log in credentials
for you. If you have previously set up an account and have forgotten your
username or password please call our technology helpdesk at 208-235-3219 and
they will reset your account.
After your initial
account creation, you can download the Portal App. on your phone so
you have up to the minute access if you choose.
v If you have moved and need to update your address in Infinite
Campus, please submit 2 current proofs of residency
(utility bill, lease agreement, driver's license, etc.) to the registrar’s
office either in person or by email. Highland sends out information on a
regular basis to our families and it is important to us that you receive the
information regarding your student and their success at Highland High School.

SENIORS: Idaho State Law
requires that you receive a second dose of the Meningococcal vaccine you
originally received to enter 7th grade. If you have not yet provided
proof of compliance to the school please fax updated records to 208-237-1350 or
email whitehel@sd25.us or schwarka@ka.sd25.us ASAP. Your
doctor’s office can fax records on your behalf with your permission as well.

College and Career Advisor's
Dear Highland Students & Families,
Here is a primer on the various options, tools, forms, and
platforms that we want our seniors to be familiar with.
Apply Idaho –
Opened October 1st
Apply Idaho is the state of Idaho’s platform from which
students can apply to ten Idaho training programs and colleges for free. The six schools with
career technical programs and the four-year universities are all represented.
Students can pursue programs in everything from Unmanned Aerial Systems
(drones) to Biomedical Engineering and everything in between. Students will
need their EDUID number, which the college career advisors can provide. The
platform asks for Social Security #s as well, so that accepted students can have
their information forwarded directly to Financial Aid offices. We will be
reaching out to students to take advantage of this easy and free service, or
students can approach us for help and guidance.
FAFSA => Free
Application for Federal Student Aid Opened October 1st
On October 1st, the FAFSA opened for the 2022 –
2023 school year opened. All students, regardless of family income or status,
are required to submit a FAFSA if students plan to attend a career technical
training program, two years of college, or four years of college. A completed
FAFSA makes students eligible for financial aid and scholarships. No FAFSA? No
financial aid or scholarships. We STRONGLY encourage students to fill out their
own FAFSA (with family submitting their financial information) because the
student is the one enrolled and the FAFSA is submitted in the student’s name.
The FAFSA can seem intimidating, but the college career advisors are here to
help. After college applications are done, do your FAFSA! Every year that a student
attends a training program or college, he or she needs to easily update and
resubmit the FAFSA.
Going on a Mission?
Are you planning on a mission right after high school? If
so, please complete your college applications and submit a FAFSA before you go.
Apply Idaho is free; requesting transcripts is free; many school have waiver
codes. But if you apply to college while you are on a mission or when you get
back, the application process will cost money, which is just the first hurdle.
Training programs and colleges in the West will defer your admission and most
scholarships as long as you complete the necessary paperwork. Getting your
college or training program ducks enables you to focus and commit to your
mission without distraction.
Military
Military service is another consideration for our high
school juniors and seniors. We want students interested in the military to take
the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), which will guide
students toward the military careers that suit their skill set and career
interest. Military recruiters – the National Guard, the Army, the Marines, and
more – are often at Highland and we can connect students to the branch that
might interest them. The military is also a way to help pay for post-secondary
training or college while building your resume and professional skills
Work
Are you going into the workforce after you graduate (or if
you’re graduating early)? Then please use the college career advisors and
guidance counselors for resume feedback, interview prep, guidance on preparation
for the world of work.
Scholarships
Here is the sequence of events:
1) Apply
to college or training.
2) Be
accepted to college or training programs.
3) Start
to apply for scholarships.
The college career advisors will be glad to help you with
each step of the process above. There are three types of scholarship:
need-based, merit (based often on academics), or talent (you play the bassoon
or play baseball). And scholarships are NOT just for brainiacs. Idaho State,
for example, has lots and lots of scholarship money for students accepted to
all of their programs. We can show you how to use the scholarship website at
the schools you’ve been accepted to.

Girls Basketball Clinic 3rd-8th Grade
All 3rd-8th graders interested. There is a Highland Girls Basketball Clinic on October 16, 23, and 30th. Check-in is 8:30am on the 16th. T-shirt included if all 3 sessions are paid for on the 16th.
