Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
As we begin closing out the 2022-2023 school year, we know that many of you are already
eager to hear updates about plans for next year. Highland’s administration has been meeting
regularly with district administration and investigation/insurance/restoration/city officials to
receive progress reports and determine a timeline for next steps. We appreciate everyone
working tirelessly at getting the school back up and running. While there continue to be many
unknowns and hurdles to overcome, we wanted to provide an update on some tentative plans

Reminder next Monday 5/29/23-Memorial Day (No School)
Reminder that next Monday 5/29/23 we will not have school for Memorial Day followed by Finals on Tuesday 5/30/23 at Century High School, and Graduation on Thursday 6/1/23 at 2pm.

Finals
Student finals will be adjusted. Senior Finals will be given on Thursday 5/25/23. Freshman, Sophomore's, and Juniors will be taking finals on a regular bell schedule on Tuesday 5/30/23. Students can attend PV-TEC on May 31st to makeup or retake anything they may need.

Congratulations to Girls Track who took 4th at state.
Congratulations to Ruby Jordan, 5A State Champion in the shot put! We are so proud of you Ruby!!
Congratulations to the Track Girls 4X4 relay who were also crowned 5A state champions with a time of 3:57.42 setting a new Highland school record by 7 seconds. The relay team was made up of Natalie Baker, Hannah Bailey, Tambree Bell, and Gracee Anderson.
Congratulations to Hannah Bailey who set a new school record in the 800 with a time of 2:15.82.
Congratulations to Boys Tennis who took 6th, and Baseball who took 6th. We are so proud of all our spring programs. They represented Highland well and competed with heart at the highest levels in Idaho. Great job spring sports!
Congratulations to Highland Band holding their last concert of the school year on Monday night at ISU's Jensen Hall! Thankyou ISU for hosting us, making this night possible. Great job Highland Band!

Graduates-Class of 2023
National Honors Society graduation is on May 24th on at 7:15pm at Century's Auditorium. Thank you Century High School for your amazing support and for allowing us to use your auditorium. We will celebrate with our National Honor Society Graduates and issue their stoles and cords to be worn at graduation. They have accomplished so much and we are so proud of them.
Below is a link provided that is updated daily with all the important dates graduates need to know for the remainder of the school year.
As we are closing in on graduation. Reminder that graduation will be held at the Portneuf Wellness Complex Amphitheater on June 1st, 2023 at 2pm. Graduates are required to be 1 hour early. Gates for those watching graduation will open no earlier than 1pm. Tickets are not required as the venue is large enough to meet our needs. There will be first come first serve seating of 2000 seats. After that guests can sit or stand on the grass. Bringing your own chair will not be allowed due to rules set forth at the amphitheater's request. Please be prepared for the weather. Also, please do not plan to hang out, have a family picnic or BBQ celebration at the Wellness Complex after the event. There is still another graduation and parking and use of the area will need to be dedicated to the next event.

GRADUATION DRESS AND CONDUCT Policy 8504
Graduation is a formal academic occasion and should be viewed as such in dress and demeanor. The dress and conduct code for graduation is as follows:
- Graduates are required to wear caps and gowns to participate in the graduation ceremony.
- Clothing must be appropriate for school, in accordance with the school's dress code policy and must be worn underneath the gown. Be neat in your appearance.
- Native American students who are members of a federally recognized tribe may wear traditional cultural and religious items inclusive of an eagle feather, and beaded items such as a necklace or medallion during graduation ceremonies.
- Caps (mortarboards) must be worn flat on the head with the edges parallel to the floor, rather than angled toward the back or the side. Caps will not be thrown during the ceremony. No decoration or writing of any kind is to be placed on the mortarboard with the exception of tribal beading around the edge of the mortarboard for federally recognized Native American students.
- Only approved cords and hoods in recognition of scholastic achievement and military designation may be worn over the gown.
- Sunglasses are not to be worn.
- Gaudy or excessive jewelry is prohibited. Minimal jewelry, scarves and/or ties may be worn under the gown.
- Graduates should not carry flowers, cameras or anything else during the commencement ceremony.
- Talking or other verbal communication should not distract from the graduation. Eating or drinking during the ceremony is prohibited.
- Graduates who do not follow the dress and conduct code as outlined above, may be removed from the line-up at the administrator's discretion.

Chromebook Check-In
While we are at Century on Thursday May 25th, students will be checking in their chromebooks, cases, and charging cords in their last class period of the day. If they have release time 5th period, then they need to turn them in to their 4th period teacher. Again, they turn them in to their teacher in their last class period of the day. Students who do not turn in the chromebook, case, and charger that was issued to them will be receive a fee on their student account.
Students that need to check-in a chromebook early can do so in the Century library or at PV-TEC.
Students attending summer school will also need to bring their chromebook, case, and charger and check it in. The teacher will verify that the student has the correct chromebook, that is assigned to them and then give it back to them to be used for summer school. Students doing IDLA classes in summer or other online options beyond summer school will need to check in their chromebook and then contact the district office about checking out a different chromebook.
Students will not have any online work on Friday May 26th. Finals will be on Tuesday May 30th and May 31st students will have to makeup or retake anything they may need.

Any textbooks not returned by the 31st will be issued fines.

Yearbooks have arrived! You can come pick up your yearbook from the PV-TEC building. You are able to purchase a yearbook on site if you haven't purchased one yet. Please contact Mrs. Smith with any questions. smithpa@sd25.us

From the Registrar
ALL SENIORS WHO PLAN ON CONTINUING YOUR EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL: You must request a final transcript to be sent to the college or university you will be attending in the fall. This must be requested before your last day of school on (5/25/2023) using the Class of 2023 Transcript Request Form. Please remember that before your final transcript can be sent all fees must be paid in full with Mrs. Huelsman, the HHS Bursar. Please check Infinite Campus and/or the parent portal for outstanding student fees. Any unpaid fee balance will be sent to Bonneville Collections at the end of the year.
Address Updates
If you have moved and need to update your address in Infinite Campus, please submit 2 current proofs of residency (utility bill, lease agreement, driver's license, etc.) to the registrar’s office. Highland sends out information on a regular basis to our families and it is important to us that you receive the information regarding your student and their success at Highland High School. Junior class Immunization Reminder
In the spring of 2019, the State of Idaho legislature changed the required immunization for all students entering the 12th grade to the following:
1 dose is needed if - Student admitted to 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year received their first dose of Meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine at 16 years of age or older, or if the student never received a dose.
2 doses needed if – Student admitted to 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year received their first dose of Meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine before the age of 16.
Please check with your child’s doctor or other agencies regarding these required immunizations.

TRIO PROGRAM
Hello Highland High School Parents,
My name is Dylon Harrison, and I am the advisor at your students’ school for a program called TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS).
TRIO is a federally-funded program designed to support first-generation high school students in finding success through high school and the transition into college (trade schools, community colleges, universities, etc.)
Throughout the student’s high school experience, TRIO scholars will have the opportunity to visit various college campuses all around the Northwest, get hands-on help applying to scholarships and colleges, financial support in college application fees, assistance in completing the FAFSA, and access to an extensive tutoring service all at NO-COST to the student.
TRIO ETS is currently accepting applications from students who will be in grades 8-12 in the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year.
Once a student is accepted into TRIO, they will be able to remain in our program until they have finished high school. Throughout that time, all of our services and trips will be completely optional, so no need to worry about not being able to attend everything! All services and trips will also continue to be provided at NO-COST throughout the entirety of their participation with us.
