HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL'S NEWSLETTER
===================================================
Just a couple of items for the second half of November, as we head into the holiday
season.
Seniors, Keep in Mind . . .
Senior students whose GPA comes up after first tri-mester grades are posted, or who
have taken / retaken the SATs or ACTs (and those new scores are reported to
Highland), we want to encourage you to send updated transcripts to ALL the colleges
and programs you’ve applied to. The deadline for grid scholarship consideration and
awards if 15 February 2023. Let your hard work reward you!
Interested in Learning Arabic?
The University of Wyoming offers a fully funded 16-day summer camp – STARTALK --
in Laramie for high school students to learn Arabic as well as Eastern and North African
culture. This is a great opportunity for students to be introduced to an important
international language at no cost to you. There are flyers with a QR code up in the C
hall and in the Counseling Area. Application Deadline is 15 February 2023. Visit the
CCAs in C-36 with any questions.
To the Seniors . . .
Our best hopes for you are:
That you apply to college(s), even if you are going on a mission, by . . .
Thanksgiving.
That you request transcripts to accompany your application or applications.
That you complete and submit a FAFSA by . . . the end of the calendar year.
That starting on January 1 st , you are applying to scholarships like it’s your job –
which it is.
Well Done!
Shout out to all the senior students and the parents / guardians they brought with them
to FAFSA Night on November 9 th . We had a really good turnout, lots of pizza, and five
ISU staff members and two Highland staff members to assist. We are grateful to those
who made time to attend (with all the necessary stuff) and to all those who helped us
make it a success.
The FAFSA makes student eligible for financial aid, loans, work study, and – most
importantly – scholarships. So if you didn’t get your FAFSA Done this week, please stop
by the CCAs and set up a time to get it started before the calendar turns.
By the Numbers
Us administrative types can be a bit geeky with numbers / data / databases. Just
wanted to share some information comparing the class of 2023 to the class of 2022
(both classes are stellar, kind, and a whole lot of good clean fun). Here goes.
Thus far in the school year, basically one trimester:
271 unique students have requested transcripts
978 transcripts have been requested and sent. Thus far!
In ALL of last year (until early June):
231 unique students requested transcripts
Approximately 1121 transcripts were requested and sent.
That means almost 80 percent of the senior class has requested transcripts – and there
is lots of school year left. This is very impressive.
We wish all our students well as they prepare for the first tri-mester finals, and we hope
that everyone’s Thanksgiving will be safe and warm and comforting.
