Congratulations to Grace Kosmicki for 2 major accomplishments. First, the Highland Senior was recognized with the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Scout of the Year Award, and then, she was named as a recipient of the Ronald Regan Leadership Medal. The Ronald Regan Leadership Medal is a national recognition presented to graduating students who best exemplify the characteristics of drive, humility, and service before self. We are so proud of Grace and these amazing accomplishments. She inspires us all to strive to be better and exemplifies the best at Highland High School. Congratulations Grace Kosmicki! We are proud of you!

College and Career Advisors
Do not be fooled by the snow we had yesterday (um, this morning) and the snow-covered hilltops – the school year is drawing to a close. Please read below about things to do and things to celebrate in the weeks ahead.
Senior Celebration 2022 – Woo Hoo !
Formerly known as the Senior Assembly, Highland’s version is much more celebratory and a lot less boring. Families, friends, supporters, and the school community will gather to honor and recognize all our graduating seniors, late morning, Friday, May 13th. Seniors will wear their caps and gowns and regalia or identifiers (leis, Native regalia, family heirlooms) that may not be permitted on graduation day. Bonus upon bonus that morning: students may sit with their friends (not the case on graduation day); afterward, students will receive their yearbooks and enjoy each others’ company in the small gym where there will be light refreshments, for graduates, families, and friends. Senior Celebration will recognize and honor all our graduates for whatever their immediate futures may hold.
We haven’t been able to do this since 2019, so please mark calendars and plan to join us on Friday, May 13th, 11:25 am, in the big gym.
Idaho Opportunity Scholarship
SENIORS: First Round of Idaho Opportunity Scholarships have been awarded!!! Students will receive an email to notify them. In the first round, students HAVE to respond by this Wednesday, May 11th to accept or decline the offer. Do not miss out on this great scholarship, which is renewable for up to four years.
If you applied to the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship, please be checking your personal email regularly. If you are offered this scholarship, you need to respond and accept it lickety split. Failure to watch and respond could mean losing thousands of dollars over the course of college and training.
Intent
to Enroll, New-Student Orientation
Early May is the time when senior students should:
1)
Inform the college or training program
they have chosen to attend that you have an Intent to Enroll at that college or training program. Check
your financial aid and scholarship awards and do what you need to do there.
2) Schedule your attendance at a new-student orientation at the college or training program you have chosen. Orientations will probably begin right after you graduate (or may even happen in late May), and at that time you will sit with an advisor, select fall classes, can meet with financial aid, scholarship, or housing folks – and get all your ducks in a row.
ISU Financial Aid & Scholarships
Seniors Students, If you are planning to attend ISU, please go to the Student Finances tab on the BengalWeb. From there, look for the “Financial Aid” box and click on the My Financial Aid hyperlink. Click on Award Offer and first answer any questions that are highlighted in red, and then go on to accept any scholarships that may have been awarded to you. Please do this really soon. Questions? Missions & ISU Scholarships
Senior Students,
If
you are accepted to ISU, plan to attend ISU, but are going on a mission within
a year of high school graduation, here are some words of guidance and
encouragement:
Ø Be sure to
formally defer your admission to ISU, which is a simple process. Go to -- https://www.isu.edu/admissions/defer/
-- and click on the Deferment Request Form (by August 1st if your
application for admission indicated a fall start).
Ø If you attend
ISU for one semester or more, and then go on a mission, ISU will hold your

Ø
Many scholarships in the Bengal Online Scholarship System (BOSS)
are funded by generous donors. Funding availability changes for these on
an annual basis. Students who know they will go on a mission right out of
high school WILL NOT want to apply for scholarships in BOSS, until the
semester before they plan to attend (as these can not
be held). Just by completing
the easy General Application in BOSS the semester before you return and plan to
attend, will automatically qualify you for some scholarships, and provide
"recommendations" of others for you to apply to (these recommended
scholarships may require additional items, such as essays, etc). These
will show up under the "opportunities tab" / "recommended"
list.
Ø Students who are awarded a grid
scholarship when accepted, who formally defer their admission (see the first
bullet point above), and go directly to a mission, will be granted a grid scholarship
based on the awarding index at the time they FIRST enroll as a new incoming
first time student AND start at ISU. Grid scholarship amount can vary, and a
student’s GPA upon graduation might have a positive or negative impact on the
grid award -- which should inspire every senior to continue to do his or her
best academic work right up to the end!
Ø Every student seeking financial aid and scholarships must
complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application of Federal Student Aid), which
is year specific. We encourage students to complete a FAFSA in their senior
year, and will need to resubmit a FAFSA for the year they will attend upon
their return. The FAFSA is available for the
upcoming academic year starting on October 1st each year.

Summer
2022 => the ACT
Juniors, this is our invitation to take yet another test -- yippee! If you want to have two different college admissions tests, your Advanced Opportunities funds will reimburse you for just about all of the cost of a summer ACT test. You have to pay in advance, but if you share your email confirmation with the college career advisors, we can get you reimbursed. There is a June 11th (you may late register until May 20th) and a July 16th ACT. You can opt to take the ACT with Writing if you feel pretty confident about your writing skills. You can prepare and take the ACT in the summer when you don’t have other academics competing for your attention or nipping at your heels. Seems like a good idea.

The Highland Greenhouse sale starts today,
We will be open from 4-6 PM Monday - Friday. Until the end of the school year or until we run out of plants. Lots of great plants this year with low prices even with inflation so I am hoping to sell out sooner rather than later. We were able to recycle a lot of containers and use some of the over stock from last year.
Attached you will spreadsheet with prices and my contact info, and some information on the plants. Make a copy and use it as an order form and send it to me or bring it with you to shop in the green house. Thanks!
