Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
A lot has been happening at Highland High School. Fall sports are winding down. We are proud of Girls Soccer and Boys Soccer all having great seasons. Volleyball is in the middle of their district tournament at Madison High School. Cross Country has districts Thursday 10/24/19 at the Portneuf Wellness Complex and then the state meet will be at the same location. Football plays Rigby 10/25/19 Friday and then the playoffs begin next week. The Swim team will go to districts on November 1st at the Aquatic Complex in Idaho Falls and the next weekend will be the state swim meet in Boise.
Highland Band continues with their success competing last Saturday at the Holt Arena and taking 1st place, sweeping all captions! Congratulations to Director Andrew Wilson and our Marching Band. We are proud of your hard work and dedication!
Our Speech and Debate Team was also recognized as one of the top 100 teams in the nation. This is out of more than 3,500 programs. Congratulations to Coach Robin Christensen and the speech and debate students. What an amazing accomplishment!
In addition our Highland Football Program was awarded as State Academic Champions averaging a 3.588 GPA. This is a huge accomplishment. We are proud of these student-athletes and their dedication to their academics.
We are proud of our students and coaches and the work they are doing. They represent the Right Attitude Means Success mantra and mission we strive to instill and live at Highland High School. We are grateful for their talents and their willingness to work so hard and be so dedicated to build their potential. Our drama program under the direction of newly hired Director Alix Van Noy will be presenting a mystery-farce in 3 acts by Jack Sharkey called The Murder Room. Opening night is October 31st at 7pm at the Highland Auditorium. Perfect for Halloween night. Other performances will be November 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th at 7pm with a matinee on November 2nd at 1pm. Cost of admission is Adults $7 and Students $3.

A committee of concerned parents got together and sought out sponsors to bring in a speaker to address the possible dangers of social media use for youth in our community. We appreciate the hard work of Cami Ellis, Maja McMinn, Claudette Jones, Stephanie Eborn, Robyn Allgood, Stephanie Richards and Michelle Evans. Thank you for your hard work to address such a timely and important issue in our school district and larger community. We appreciate your support and care for the children in our community.
As a result of this committee's work, on Monday, November 4th, Highland High School will be having an assembly with guest presenter Collin Kartchner with his #SavetheKids campaign. There will also be a parent/family night on Monday, November 4th, at 7pm at the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Festival of Trees is coming up earlier this year. This event is held at the ISU Stephens Performing Arts Center. The Grand Opening Gala is November 19, 2019. The Children's Royal Tea Party is Friday November 22nd Session I is at 4pm and Session II is at 7pm. The Festival of Trees is open to the public on November 20-23, 2019. This is a wonderful event where proceeds go to supporting the education of our students in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District #25. The money earned from the event goes to the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District Education Foundation.

Math Tutoring is available on Tuesdays from 7:30-8:30am in room B14 with Mrs. Wilkinson and on Tuesday's from 4pm-5pm in room B72 with Mrs. Davies.
Also, tutoring is now set up and available on Tuesday's and Thursday's starting 9/24/19 from 4-5pm with Mrs. Roberts in Room E-56 and Mrs. Holston in Room B-19.
Yearbook's are available to order for purchase for the 2019-20 school year until November 26, 2019. Yearbook's cost $65.

The Highland Foundation is dedicated to raising money to benefit Highland High School. For example, two years ago the Highland Foundation was able to refurnish the school library from funds that were donated through the foundation, bringing it up to date and making it a powerful resource for the school. There are some benefits you can recieve from donating money to the Highland Foundation. One benefit is that you are helping improve Highland High school. Also, there are a couple of tax benefits. Your donation(s) can be written off as an itemized deduction on your Federal Taxes. In addition, there is a specialized tax rebate that can be applied to State Taxes for donations to a non-profit/public school entity allowing for up to 1/2 back.
The foundation has been working to find ways that make it easier for you to give to Highland High School. The first step in this process is establishing a Venmo account. Venmo is an app that can be downloaded to your phone and facilitates the transfer of money from one to another. Once set up, it literally takes just seconds. The Highland Foundation bank account is attached to its newly established Venmo account allowing for donations to go directly to the account. The account handle name is @HighlandFoundation, you will see Melissa Nielsen's name (the school librarian) as she is the treasurer for the Highland Foundation. You can donate up to $2,999 in one transaction. Please type in where you want this money to be donated (English, Math, Wrestling, Football, Library, Etc). If you do not specify where then it will automatically be assigned to the general account and will not be earmarked for a specific area.
