The Fast Forward program provides every student attending an Idaho public school an allocation of $4,125.00 to use towards Advanced Opportunities in grades 7-12. The program was expanded by the Legislature in 2016 through the passing of House Bill 458.

Advanced Opportunities: Fast Forward Funding
The Fast Forward program provides every student attending an Idaho public school an allocation of $4,125.00 to use towards Advanced Opportunities in grades 7-12. The program was expanded by the Legislature in 2016 through the passing of House Bill 458.
Fast Forward funds can be used to pay for overload courses.
Overload courses are high school classes that are over 12 credits per school
year and taken outside of the regular school day. Overload courses are offered
online, during the summertime, and after school. Students can utilize up to
$225 per course toward such classes. Please be aware that released time classes
are not credit bearing classes.
Funds can be used for dual enrollment courses. Dual
enrollment courses are courses taken by high school students that are
transcribed on their high school and college transcripts. The Fast Forward
program can pay for up to $75.00 per credit, and in most cases, the cost of
these credits is $65.00. Dual Credit courses can also be taken online, by
virtual conferencing, or in some cases students can go directly to the
college/university campus.

Student can utilize Fast Forward funds to pay for a variety
of college-credit bearing or professional technical exams. These include
Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level
Examination Program (CLEP), or Career & Technical Education (CTE) exams. A
full list of qualifying exams is available in the Resource Files.
Early Graduation Scholarships are available for students who
graduate at least one full year early, not including summer school. These
scholarships are equal to 35% of the Average Daily Attendance (ADA) for a given
school year. This equates to roughly $1,500.00. Scholarships can be used at
Idaho public post-secondary institutions. The awarded amount will double for
students who graduate two years early and will triple for students who graduate
three years early. If a student elects not to attend a college or university
immediately after high school, they will have up to 28 months to utilize the
scholarship before it expires.

Homecoming is next week. The theme for the week is Road Trip. Tickets to the Homecoming Dance are $30 pre bought and $35 at the door per couple and include pictures. The dance is Friday 10/4/19 from 8:30pm-11pm at the Highland Cafeteria. The theme for the dance is the Roaring 20's.
Math Tutoring is available on Tuesdays from 7:30-8:30am in room B14 with Mrs. Wilkinson and on Tuesday's from 4pm-5pm in room B72 with Mrs. Davies.
Also, tutoring is now set up and available on Tuesday's and Thursday's starting 9/24/19 from 4-5pm with Mrs. Roberts in Room E-56 and Mrs. Holston in Room B-19.
Yearbook's are available to order for purchase for the 2019-20 school year until November 26, 2019. Yearbook's cost $65.

The Highland Foundation is dedicated to raising money to benefit Highland High School. For example, two years ago the Highland Foundation was able to refurnish the school library from funds that were donated through the foundation, bringing it up to date and making it a powerful resource for the school. There are some benefits you can recieve from donating money to the Highland Foundation. One benefit is that you are helping improve Highland High school. Also, there are a couple of tax benefits. Your donation(s) can be written off as an itemized deduction on your Federal Taxes. In addition, there is a specialized tax rebate that can be applied to State Taxes for donations to a non-profit/public school entity allowing for up to 1/2 back.
The foundation has been working to find ways that make it easier for you to give to Highland High School. The first step in this process is establishing a Venmo account. Venmo is an app that can be downloaded to your phone and facilitates the transfer of money from one to another. Once set up, it literally takes just seconds. The Highland Foundation bank account is attached to its newly established Venmo account allowing for donations to go directly to the account. The account handle name is @HighlandFoundation, you will see Melissa Nielsen's name (the school librarian) as she is the treasurer for the Highland Foundation. You can donate up to $2,999 in one transaction. Please type in where you want this money to be donated (English, Math, Wrestling, Football, Library, Etc). If you do not specify where then it will automatically be assigned to the general account and will not be earmarked for a specific area.
