Update on the our district moving from a school of choice system to an open enrollment with boundaries system. Tonight, Tuesday 2/20/18, at 6:30pm at the District Office the school board will be meeting to hear the proposal decided upon by the boundary committee and the information provided by the focus groups.
From Monday 2/12/18 through Friday 2/23/18 Highland and Pocatello High School's are working in conjunction with Crescendo Alliance (a non-profit charitable organization) to gather new and used shoes to donate to rural areas of 3rd world Latin American countries. High heels, boots with heels, and flip flops are not accepted, but all other shoes, please donate to Highland High School or Pocatello High School.
Congratulations to girls basketball finishing 6th in the state and to 5 of our speech & debate students qualifying for nationals this past weekend. Boys district basketball continues tonight at 7pm at Highland High School v. Rigby and State Wrestling is this Friday 2/23 and Saturday 2/24 at the Holt Arena. Finals for the 2nd trimester are coming up on Wednesday 2/21/18-Thursday 2/22/18 followed by no school on Friday 2/23/18 for a record day. The first day of the 3rd trimester is Monday 2/26/18.
Reminder to students and parents regarding finals, finishing up the second trimester. The expectation is that students will remain in class during finals and will not be able to checkout during class time. This time has been reserved for students to complete finals and will be protected as such. This will minimize distractions and create the best possible environment for assessment. All the high schools in the district seek academic excellence and creating an appropriate environment for assessment is essential in helping students perform at their best.
The question then becomes, "Can I check my student out during finals?" The answer is, not during class time. If there is an emergency then school administration will determine how to respond and will work with those involved. Dental appointments or other doctor appointments do not count as emergencies and the school expectation is that these appointments will need to be rescheduled when they do not infringe on the time dedicated for finals. Please call the school and speak with school administration with questions or concerns.

Out of Country 2019 Spring Break Travel Opportunities
Students have the opportunity to travel to China on an educational tour during spring break 2019, March 16-March 25. Students will explore Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an. The trip includes a trip to the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. For more information contact Camille Marchand marchaca@sd25.us or Glenda Funk funkgl@sd25.us. Enrollment ends February 16, 2018, after which time cost for the trip will increase. Students (and parents) can secure their spot on the tour with a $95.00 deposit. The trip includes airfare, lodging, two extra excursions, travel insurance, breakfast and lunch, and many cultural and exciting adventures that will last a lifetime!

What is ALA Girls State?
The American Legion Auxiliary’s marquee Girls State program, first presented in 1937, is one of the most respected and coveted experiential learning programs presented in the United States.
The program epitomizes the ALA’s mission to honor those who have brought us our freedom through our enduring commitment to develop young women as future leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism. The young women become knowledgeable of the democratic process and how our republic form of government works at the state and national levels.
What is Boys State?
American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government, Boys State was founded in 1935 to counter the socialism-inspired Young Pioneer Camps. The program was the idea of two Illinois Legionnaires, Hayes Kennedy and Harold Card, who organized the first Boys State at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
Reminder that ISAT testing will be held on April 2 and
April 10. Also, the juniors will be taking the SAT on April 10.
We are providing these dates to you early in the hopes that you can make the needed changes to your students schedules (vacations, doctor’s appointments, etc.) to work around these dates. The ISAT and SAT tests are mandatory to meet graduation requirements.

Be sure and purchase your $2 Ticket or Tickets for the Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello Raffle benefiting Athletics and Activities. Last year a Pocatello High School parent won a brand new Dodge Dart all expenses paid including taxes. Over $56,000 was raised for school activities in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District in last years raffle. Support athletics and activities again this year and buy raffle tickets for $2 for the chance to win a new Jeep Renegade worth $25,000 donated by Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can buy. All expenses for the car are covered, including taxes. All proceeds go to school athletics and activities. Tickets are on sale until May 21, 2018 and the drawing will take place at the new Lithia Dealership in Pocatello on May 31, 2018.
