Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
On Thursday October 7th and Friday the 8th students will not have school due to state teacher inservice days. Teachers will be participating in professional development training and contacting or meeting with parents/guardians. Please contact school administration with any questions.
All Sophomore's and Juniors who signed up and paid are scheduled to take the PSAT exam on October 13th, 2021. At Highland we will be testing over 600 students. All Freshman, Junior and Senior students not taking the exam will not come to school on October 13th. They will have a virtual day where online work is assigned. Please contact Mrs. Santos-Smith in the counseling center with questions or concerns.

Student Achievement
Congratulations to Highland Students Addison Hobson and Grace Kosmicki. These students scored within the top 35,000 in the nation on the PSAT receiving a letter of commendation from the National Merit Corporation. The letter states, "these students represent a valuable national resource." We are so proud of Addison and Grace and grateful that their hard academic work has been recognized on a national scale.

National Honors Society
We have 100 new members of the National Honors Society. There is a meeting for all new members on Wednesday 9/29/21 during lunch in the Highland Media Center to prepare for Induction. All new members and their families are invited to the induction of new members. Induction is on Monday 10/4/21 at 7pm in the Highland Auditorium.

Highland

Think
of the college career advisors and the guidance counselors as the folks who direct
students toward the Three Os:
opportunities, ownership, outcomes.
With
the help and assistance of guidance counselors, teachers and coaches, and the
college career advisors, Highland students will:
Ø Identify their opportunities. Those
opportunities might be academic success, participation in clubs or sports, or
using Advanced Opportunities funds for training, certifications, or dual-credit
classes. Remember every Idaho students has $4,125 that can be used to identify
personal or academic strengths and begin the process of using those funds to
meet goals.
Ø Development ownership skills so that
students appreciate the responsibilities and rewards that come from using
Advanced Opportunities monies. Students learn to appreciate that their state
funds are both a gift and a duty – a duty to do their best work, meet teacher
and family expectations, enjoy the satisfaction that comes from a job well
done,sand be accountable for their performance in a program, an exam, or a
course.
Ø Benefit from
the outcomes provided by
state funds and the support of teachers, coaches, and Highland staff. Positive,
challenging, affirming outcomes can make all the difference in a student’s high
school experience. Students identify strengths, frustrations, and the kind of
work or study that they do not want to do as well as the work that provides
promise and fulfillment.
The
three Os combined are the springboard from which a student can make a strong
and successful transition after high school to whatever awaits.

Extracurricular's
Boosters will be providing concessions at the Freshman and JV football games this week. Hot Coco and other goodies will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to the boosters to help support all our extracurriculars. The games are Thursday 9/30/21 at Iron Horse Stadium. Freshman at 4:30pm and JV at 6:30pm.

Girls Basketball Clinic 3rd-8th Grade
All 3rd-8th graders interested. There is a Highland Girls Basketball Clinic on October 16, 23, and 30th. Check-in is 8:30am on the 16th. T-shirt included if all 3 sessions are paid for on the 16th. Cost is $20 per session or $60 for all three sessions. Bring your own ball. For more details and to sign up follow the link....
