Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,

We are excited to announce auditions for the Highland High School musical Les Miserables. Acting auditions begin 12/14 from 4-6pm. No need to prepare anything, just be ready to act. Singing auditions are being held on 12/15 from 4-7pm. Prepare 16-32 bars (1-2mins) of a broadway song not from Les Miserables. Sign up for a time slot in room E52. Have your backing track ready to plug in and play. Callbacks will be on 12/17. A list will be posted on 12/15 with what song you need to learn from the show. Come prepared to act and sing your assigned song. For questions or concerns please contact Director Van Noy in room E52. His email is vannoal@sd25.us

National Honors Society invitation letters have been sent out. Sophomores and Juniors with a 3.6 or higher GPA have been invited to join NHS. The application is due Sunday, December 13th at 11:59 pm.  If you have questions, please contact the advisor of NHS, Mrs. Plato at platost@sd25.us .

Thank you for everyone who donated to our Holiday Food Drive. Thank you to Junior Civitan and Key Clubs for organizing this event. Together we collected 1639 cans and $2,399! That money is enough for 11,995 meals. Included in that is two of the canned food bins filled with potatoes from Swore Farms that our students went out and picked themselves. Thank you to everyone for your generosity for those in our community.

Items of interest for all seniors – heads up!

·         The deadline to apply to all BYU schools is coming fast: Tuesday, December 15th. If you are considering an application to any BYU school, the deadline for application (and also to be considered for institutional scholarships) is NEXT WEEK!

·         Have you made your applications to 2- or 4-year college or career / technical programs? The sooner you apply, the sooner you can be accepted, the sooner you will then starting applying for scholarships. Financial aid monies at colleges and universities are a diminishing pot of money – the longer you wait to apply, the less money the school of your choice will be able to offer you.

·         After you apply to colleges or programs, you MUST request transcripts. According to the Registrar’s Office (thank you, Katie), 104 seniors have requested 411 transcripts thus far. That is about a third of the senior class. Let’s get to 150 seniors requesting transcripts, at least, by the holiday break. Go to hhsrams.com, then click on the Registrar’s tab, then scroll down to Transcript Request Forms. Free to all high school students; $5 / each after you graduate.

·         Your FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Gotta do this, gotta get it done, gotta do this soon. Let your college career advisors help and guide you through this process.

·         Scholarships for new students / first years will start to open up later this month and at the turn of the new year. When you are accepted to colleges, you start to apply for / request financial aid and scholarship money there, and then apply for scholarships like it’s your job – which it is.

Your friendly neighborhood college career advisors stand ready to help.
