Highland has 5 ISU Road scholars !
The
College of Arts & Letters and ISU as a whole have a goal of bringing Idaho up
from last in the nation for the college go on rate. There is a belief that Road Scholars will
help Southeast Idaho’s top students enroll and finish their education at the
college level. Seniors with a 3.0 or
higher GPA were nominated by HHS staff members. These students are hard
working, smart, generous of spirit, take initiative to further their education
and happen to all be female this year!

The
faculty and staff of Highland are happy to announce our first-ever Senior
Celebration on the morning of Monday, May 20th, beginning at 9:15. It
will be a school-wide gathering to congratulate our seniors and the people who
have supported them on their journey. Like graduation, but less formal, seniors
will sit with their friends and are invited to wear their caps and gowns. We
will acknowledge, by group and category, the future plans we know of for our
seniors, will congratulate the seniors, and thank the people whose effort and
commitment helped them reach their graduation goal. Afterwards, there will be
light refreshments for seniors and guests, and opportunities for memorable
picture taking. Park in the quasi-lot directly across from the main entrance of
school. A feel-good moment if ever there was one. We hope you will join us.

his/her College Board account but does not see scores, it means we were not
able to link their score report and account automatically. For security
reasons, a student must verify additional information before we can display
scores. The student will need either his/her SAT registration number or
the Student ID number the student was pre-identified with by the school or
district.

AP students that are testing, have received the dates, times
and location of the exams. Please speak to your student about the green paper
provided with this information as well as encourage your student to make sure
they are ontime for the exam so he/she does not miss out on the oportunity to
participate in taking it. Per
CollegeBoard, all schools have to start the exam at a specifide time.

free, interactive program provided by the US Army (with no obligation) that is
designed to help students prepare for standerdized test and to improve on
school work.

are needed in the Highland school district to host students, 15-18 year old
boys and girls from many different countries. Students speak English,
come medically insured with their own spending money for any personal and
school related expenses. They attend the host family's local high school

REMINDERS
Summer School dates are set. First Session: June 11-July 3. Second Session: July 8-July 30. All students who need to make up credits will need to register with their school counselor before the end of the school year (May 31st). Summer school will be held at the New Horizon Center.
Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, in order to be in compliance with Idaho education law, the Pocatello/Chubbuck School district will be changing the way they issue credit for dual enrollment courses. Dual enrollment courses are courses in which a student can earn college credit while still in high school. In the past, each dual enrollment course taken would account for one high school credit, regardless of the corresponding credit level at the institution of higher learning. For example, a student taking English 101, a three (3) credit course at ISU, would receive one (1) high school credit on their high school transcript.. However, the law now requires that students receive high school credit at a ratio of at least 2:1 for dual enrollment courses. As such, the same English 101 course will now equate to one and a half (1.5) high school credits on the high school transcript. Likewise, if a student takes a dual enrollment course with a college credit value of four (4) credits, the student will receive two (2) high school credits. Dear Senior Parents, If you have students who are planning on going to Idaho State University fall 2019, make sure your student has accepted their scholarship offers. This can be done by completing the paperwork that should have been sent to the student’s residence. This is crucial because the deadline for accepting is May 1st. After this deadline the scholarship offer is gone! If you need the paperwork sent to you again you can contact the Scholarship Office at (208) 282-3315 to have them re-send the scholarship offer. Reminder that the Idaho Legislature recently passed a bill allowing for a STEM designation to be included on a student’s high school diploma.
Students who successfully complete all graduation requirements established by the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District may receive a high school diploma designated as a STEM diploma if they meet the following criteria:
· Complete eight (8) credits in mathematics
· Complete eight (8) credits in science
· Complete five (5) additional credits of the student’s choice in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
Students who are interested in applying for the STEM diploma designation can see their counselor for
an application. Applications must be completed and returned to the school registrar prior to May 1, 2019.

The Highland Foundation is dedicated to raising money to benefit Highland High School. For example, last school year the Highland Foundation was able to remodel the school library from funds that were donated through the foundation, bringing it up to date and making it a powerful resource for the school. There are some benefits you can recieve from donating money to the Highland Foundation. One benefit is that you are helping improve Highland High school. Also, there are a couple of tax benefits. Your donation(s) can be written off as an itemized deduction on your Federal Taxes. In addition, there is a specialized tax rebate that can be applied to State Taxes for donations to a non-profit/public school entity allowing for up to 1/2 back.
The foundation has been working to find ways that make it easier for you to give to Highland High School. The first step in this process is establishing a Venmo account. Venmo is an app that can be downloaded to your phone and facilitates the transfer of money from one to another. Once set up, it literally takes just seconds. The Highland Foundation bank account is attached to its newly established Venmo account allowing for donations to go directly to the account. The account handle name is @HighlandFoundation, you will see Melissa Nielsen's name (the school librarian) as she is the treasurer for the Highland Foundation. You can donate up to $2,999 in one transaction. Please type in where you want this money to be donated (English, Math, Wrestling, Football, Library, Etc). If you do not specify where then it will automatically be assigned to the general account and will not be earmarked for a specific area.
