Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Parents of HHS Seniors,
It is time to begin planning for the senior all-night party in June. We need as much parent support as possible to make this a memorable, safe evening for our seniors. We will be having our first parent meeting Wednesday, November 14th at 7:00pm in the Highland High School media center. If you cannot make it to the meeting but would like to participate in any way possible, please text Dedra Sanna at 208-221-1795.
A student fan bus will be taking students to the 5A State Championship Football Game featuring our Highland Rams v Rocky Mountain on Saturday 11/17/18. The bus will leave on Saturday 11/17 at 5:30am and the cost is $20. The game starts at 10am at Albertson's/Boise Bronco Stadium in Boise, ID.
Congratulations to Highland student Kristen Alexander among 24 South East Idaho Youth for being chosen by the Idaho State Journal for the annual Kids Matter award. This award is given as recognition for the good deeds, kindness, community involvement and friendship exhibited daily in neighborhoods or schools. We are proud of Kristen. She truly represents the Highland Ram Attitudes.

Also, congratulations to Highland English teacher Mark Ritcher. He recently completed his Master's degree in Creative Writing and Professional and Entertainment Writing. We are proud of Mr. Ritcher and his work to further his own education, improving his skills for the benefit of not only himself, but all those who take his classes. Great job Mr. Ritcher!

students, the College & Career Advisors have decided to offer extended
hours after school to offer help with FAFSA, Scholarships, College Questions,
etc. Each Wednesday for four weeks starting November 28th - December 21st
the College & Career Advisors will be available from 4-6pm every
Wednesday in the CCA office (C-36). For FAFSA help please be sure to bring W2

Clarkson clarkssa@sd25.us, or Amanda
Blair blairam@sd25.us.
Senior students participated in
College Application Week, the first week of November. They had the opportunity
to apply to college through the Apply Idaho website. Make sure to congratulate
your student for taking initiative in their plans for after high school! Please
be sure to have your senior student be on the lookout for emails from colleges,
and to follow the directions for continuing the Fall 2019 enrollment. The next
steps in the process is being sure to fill out the 2017-2018 FAFSA, and to
start working on scholarships. You can access Highland’s local scholarships at www.tiny.cc/9s9vzy.
In other news the CCA’s took 36
Senior students to visit the College of Southern Idaho, Boise State, and the
students got to experience a Boise State football game! They had the invaluable
opportunity to experience a two year college, along with a four year college
and experience the atmosphere of being on a campus during a sporting event.
ASVAB Date: December 5th @ 9:00am
Location: Highland High School
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP ) can help you
take steps now toward finding a career that’s right for you. You can
benefit from the ASVAB CEP regardless of your plans for after high school. This
test is not just for students who are contemplating military enlistment.
The ASVAB will help you to understand your skills, abilities, and interests
that will ultimately guide you to make the best decisions about your
future. For more information or to sign up for the test, please contact
Tricia Harvala in the Counseling Center.
A reminder to students and parents that if a student fails a class they may not be able to make it up later on in the school year and will need to attend summer school. We have a large number of students. Retaking a class can be problematic because of the demand for classes and scheduling conflicts.

Friday 11/30 schedule changes now are considered withdraw/fail.
Preference changes will not be done during class time due to upcoming finals...even if a teacher gives a student permission.
Please note we will only be doing changes for 2nd trimester to help as many students as possible during their personal time. It is likely students may have to wait in line more than once if the bell rings for class while they are in line and they need to leave. Please be patient.
Students with "See Counselor" in their schedule will be pulled in by their counselor to fill in these spots in their schedule.

OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS
A reminder that first trimester finals will occur on Monday November 19th and Tuesday November 20th, 2018.
After meeting with administration from the different high schools, and the district office, the following has been decided regarding finals.
Students will not, under any circumstances, be able to take finals earlier than the dates assigned.
We understand that there will be extenuating circumstances due to medical, legal or other events that infringe on this time that cannot be controlled or determined. As a result, students who may be gone during any of their finals have the first week of school after finals, until November 30th, 2018, to make up what they have missed. This time must be setup by the student with the teacher of the class of the final the student missed. Teachers are required to submit grades for the first trimester by November 26th, 2018. As a result, students who miss their finals will be recorded as having a score of 0 on their final. After the student makes up the final they have missed a grade change will be submitted.
Reminder to students and parents that the expectation for finals is that students will remain in class during finals and will not be able to checkout during class time. This time has been reserved for students to complete finals and will be protected as such. This will minimize distractions and create the best possible environment for assessment. All the high schools in the district seek academic excellence and creating an appropriate environment for assessment is essential in helping students perform at their best.
We appreciate your support and understanding. Please contact school administration with any questions or concerns.
