Highland 3/12-3/27/18






Dear Parent/Guardian, Student, and Highland Ram Supporter,

Reminder that current 8th grade students must fill out the attached form and give it to the high school registrar before March 15, 2018 indicating whether the student will attend the school of a sibling or their boundary school. Failure to fill out the form will default the students enrollment to their boundary school. 

All other students are able to transfer, if approved, from their assigned boundary high school to a high school of their choice. A transfer form must be filled out and approval of the transfer is based on specific criteria set forth by the school district. Transfer is primarily based on enrollment in a high school with regards to its capacity. 

Incoming 9th Grade student transfer requests (for students to which the sibling rule does not apply) given to the high school registrar by March 15th, if approved, are not subject to restrictions on extracurricular eligibility. Here is the form=http://www.sd25.us/PDF/Boundaries/9th-Grade-letter.pdf

All other transfers are subject to restrictions regarding participation in extracurricular activities including not being able to participate for 365 days from the date of transfer.

Mr. Tori Parkin and Coach Ty Pearson along with their students have been working extremely hard to update our website and to ensure that it meets the Americans with Disabilities Act Guidelines. Highland student, Leandro Yabut, coded and developed the website. We are extremly proud of his amazing work! We are currently putting forth efforts to upload this site with everything to be the central hub of information for our school. Coupled with this effort, Mrs. Melissa Durham, our activities secretary, has done amazing work at developing our activities website/calendar at http://highlandrams.org/ For the most up to date information regarding school activities please check out this site. This is especially important with our spring weather as the mix of weather often causes cancellations and rescheduling.

We are working hard at keeping you informed with the happenings at Highland High School. We are continually seeking improvement in these areas and we appreciate any input you can give us on how to do so.  

We wanted to tell Debate and Business Professionals of America (BPA) great job at state competition. We are proud of you and all the hard work you put in. Debate had 2 octafinalists, a quarter finalist, and a congress finalist.

We are excited to for Speech to compete at districts in American Falls this Wednesday 3/14/18.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is sending 11 students to state! Congratulations to these students and their advisor Mrs. Rhonda Jenkins! State will be held at the Riverside Hotel in Boise, ID on April 4th-6th. We are so excited and we know they will work hard and represent Highland well!

We are excited for Cheer and Dance to compete this week at State at the Idaho Center in Nampa, ID on March 16th & 17th. Here are is the state link=http://www.idhsaa.org/activities/cheer.aspx 

Tonight, Monday 3/12/18 at 5pm come for some fun at the Girls and Boys District V All-Star Basketball Game, 3-point competition and dunk competition at Pocatello High School. Playing for Highland Girls Basketball will be  Mary Calley, Sevana Spoklie, Lexi Rowe, and Allie Thayne. Highland boys will feature Daxton Carr and Dylan Andersion

We appreciate and love our students at Highland. Thank you parents for all you do to support them and Highland High School. Enjoy spring break next week!

Academic registration for the 2018-2019 school year
Students have been working on their four year plans and their requests for next year for several weeks in advisory. Unfortunately, some of our students have chosen not to participate in this process. Staff and students have been made aware that if they continue to choose not to participate in registration, their classes will be chosen for them and they will not be allowed to make schedule changes next year. If you as parents/guardians could help remind them to contact their TAs or counselors if they have questions this week (the computer will roll to requests on March 16th, and then it has to be hand entered by a staff member), that would help prevent any issues regarding students’ schedules next year.
Also, please turn in your Religion Released Time forms to the Registrar’s office as soon as possible and no later than mid-April. There will be a basket on her counter to place them in.

ISAT testing reminder
The first ISAT test will be given on April 2nd, 2018
·         Students need to be prepared to eat lunch at the school with either a sack lunch or with food from the cafeteria.

·         Please have your student bring your own ear buds, if they have them, otherwise headphones will be provided.

Out of Country 2019 Spring Break Travel Opportunities
Students have the opportunity to travel to China on an educational tour during spring break 2019, March 16-March 25. Students will explore Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an. The trip includes a trip to the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. For more information contact Camille Marchand marchaca@sd25.us or Glenda Funk funkgl@sd25.us. Enrollment ends February 16, 2018, after which time cost for the trip will increase. Students (and parents) can secure their spot on the tour with a $95.00 deposit. The trip includes airfare, lodging, two extra excursions, travel insurance, breakfast and lunch, and many cultural and exciting adventures that will last a lifetime!

Be sure and purchase your $2 Ticket or Tickets for the Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello Raffle benefiting Athletics and Activities.  Last year a Pocatello High School parent won a brand new Dodge Dart all expenses paid including taxes.  Over $56,000 was raised for school activities in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District in last years raffle.  Support athletics and activities again this year and buy raffle tickets for $2 for the chance to win a new Jeep Renegade worth $25,000 donated by Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can buy.  All expenses for the car are covered, including taxes.  All proceeds go to school athletics and activities.  Tickets are on sale until May 21, 2018 and the drawing will take place at the new Lithia Dealership in Pocatello on May 31, 2018.  Contact the school bursar to buy tickets (208)237-1300 and/or look to buy tickets and see the car on display at home events throughout the school year.
