Highland Academic Calendar:
Highland Activities Calendar:
=================================================
Dear Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
It has been a whirlwind the past few days and we appreciate the support and patience as we move forward to finish out the school year.
Please check the district website for more details regarding the information below:
In order to contact Highland High School staff you are able to call to Century High School on Tuesday's and Thursday's using Highland's original phone number. However, the best way is to email whomever you are trying to reach.
Here is a list of staff and their assigned emails:
There have been requests if students can just work online. We apologize for the difficulties this tragedy has pushed onto all of us, but this is not an option we are offering. Please email Highland Administration with further questions or concerns.
Students will be working remotely, online, Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's through the remainder of the school year. Teachers are available at the PV-TEC building(the old Allstate Building by Home Depot) at 4200 Hawthorne Rd. Chubbuck, ID 83202 on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's for students that need support. Transportation and food service is available.
Tuesday's and Thursday's students will be attending Century High School for in-person, face-to-face learning. Again, transportation is available via the students normal bus routes. For students that used to walk to Highland for school, there are buses that will pick them up at Highland. Food service will be available at Century High School. We will follow regular bell schedule times at Century.
There is not transportation for 0 hour, early morning students.
For questions about transportation please call (208) 235-3227.
Attendance
Student attendance is still a strong expectation and considered critical for learning. We will continue to track student attendance on both remote/online days and in-person/face-to-face days. We will still issue truancies based on district procedures. We have worked hard to provide face-to-face learning. Please make sure students take advantage of this time they can be in the classrooms with their classmates and with their teachers.
On Tuesday's and Thursday's at Century High School traditional attendance procedures will be followed.
On Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's students will need to log into their google classroom and answer the attendance/participation question for the day. This ensures that teachers know students have at least accessed their google classroom where their assignment(s) for the day are posted.
Parking
The entrance to PV-TEC is on the east side of the building closest to the mall. Please park anywhere in the parking lot around the building on the east, south, and west. Please do not park in the Home Depot parking lot on the north end of the building, they will tow your car.
At Century High School there is plenty of student parking on the south and north of the school. Directly in front of the main entrance is reserved for visitor and staff parking.
Open House Tonight at Century High School
Tonight we will be holding an open house at Century High School from 6-7:30pm so students can have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the building and where their classes are located. Below is a map. Infinite Campus has been updated to reflect students room assignments at Century. We can also print students a copy who need one tonight at the open house.

Graduation/Caps & Gowns/Yearbooks
As we are closing in on graduation. Reminder that graduation will be held at the Portneuf Wellness Complex Amphitheater on June 1st, 2023 at 2pm. Graduates are required to be 1 hour early. Gates for those watching graduation will open no earlier than 1pm. Tickets are not required as the venue is large enough to meet our needs. There will be first come first serve seating of 2000 seats. After that guests can sit or stand on the grass. Bringing your own chair will not be allowed due to rules set forth at the amphitheater's request. Please be prepared for the weather. Also, please do not plan to hang out, have a family picnic or BBQ celebration at the Wellness Complex after the event. There is still another graduation and parking and use of the area will need to be dedicated to the next event. Please contact Principal Wallace with any questions or concerns.
Caps and Gowns that have been ordered will be arriving very soon as will yearbooks. The plan is to distribute caps and gowns and yearbooks from the PV-TEC building when they arrive. We will also set up a photo shoot at the same time for graduates to take a picture that will display as their name is read at graduation. Specific information will be sent out to graduates when these items arrive.

From the Registrar
ALL SENIORS WHO PLAN ON CONTINUING YOUR EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL: You must request a final transcript to be sent to the college or university you will be attending in the fall. This must be requested before your last day of school on (5/25/2023) using the Class of 2023 Transcript Request Form. Please remember that before your final transcript can be sent all fees must be paid in full with Mrs. Huelsman, the HHS Bursar. Please check Infinite Campus and/or the parent portal for outstanding student fees. Any unpaid fee balance will be sent to Bonneville Collections at the end of the year.

Address Updates
If you have moved and need to update your address in Infinite Campus, please submit 2 current proofs of residency (utility bill, lease agreement, driver's license, etc.) to the registrar’s office. COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
Dear
Highland Students & Families,
Our
worlds are entirely different from the last time I penned blog words. It is
important and meaningful for all of us to finish the school-year strong. We
support each other, as we always have, and as we should.
Seniors! Idaho Opportunity Scholarship
Offers
If
you applied to the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship, the first AND second round of
offers were made to your personal
email (round 2 this week). There is a deadline
to accept or decline the second-round offers of Wednesday, May 10. If you missed the deadline for round 1
(April 24), you may be out of luck. We are not sure if there will be a third
round, but if there is, we’ll announce it here. At any rate, watch
your email and do not let this important communication get buried.
Please
check your email, and then log on to Scholarship Idaho to either accept or
decline by May 10. If they do not hear back from you, your name will go to the
bottom of the list and there may or may not be enough money left to make you an
offer later this spring.
If
you know that you will NOT be going to college or training in Idaho, then
please do go onto the website and decline, so that those monies can go to
another deserving student.
Questions?
Stop by the college career advisors at PV-TEC or at Century.
Utah State: Scholarship Acceptance Deadline
=> May 1
|
|
|
Students
must accept their Utah State scholarships from the Admissions Office
by paying or postponing their enrollment deposit, or
by deferring their admission. The deadline to do this is
printed on each scholarship offer, and is typically May 1 for
summer/fall semesters. This excludes federal aid or scholarships offered by
departments outside the Admissions Office.

Senior Celebration: Still Gonna Happen,
Watch for the Date
Despite
the recent upset, Highland will STILL celebrate all its seniors with what we
call Senior Celebration. We are not yet sure of the date, but it WILL happen, and
we will
celebrate, fergodssake. Continue to watch her for the latest, and we will
inform all seniors and families by text and email.
Here’s
the drill: Seniors may wear their caps and gowns and adorn themselves with
cultural and personal identifiers (which is not permitted on graduation day).
And students may sit with their friends (which cannot happen on graduation
day). Afterward there will be a reception with light refreshments and seniors
can sign each other’s yearbooks. It is a lovely send-off right before exams and
actual graduation day. Families, parents, and supporters are invited to attend
and join in celebrating all our seniors.
Your Scholarships: How Many & How
Much
Throughout
Tri 3, and before you can pick up your graduation cap and gown / regalia, we
would like you to share with the CCAs where you were awarded scholarships (all the schools and programs), from ANY source (institutions,
the state of Idaho, other outside funders), and the amount of each scholarship.
This includes the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship. We’re keeping a spreadsheet.
The
data that is collected – which reflects only institutions and other scholarship
fund totals at each institution, and NO personal data – is shared with both
school district administration and the State Board of Education. That data
serves to support the presence of CCAs in our schools.
Get
us your scholarship information in any form that is easy for you (an email, a
note, a scribble on a paper napkin) and we’ll enter it into our spreadsheet.
This
is a good exercise for seniors because listing the scholarships you earned is
absolutely a resume item and an endorsement of your high school efforts,
academic and otherwise.

ALEKS Test for Dual Credit Next Year
If
you plan to take dual credit math or science during the 23 – 24 school year,
you will probably need an ALEKS score as a pre-requisite. Honors College
Algebra, Statistics, Honors Chemistry, AP Biology, Calculus, and Trigonometry
all require an ALEKS score or pre-requisite dual credit coursework.
We
will be offering the ALEKS on Wednesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May
10th, at the Gateway Building, which is on the other side of the
tennis courts at Highland. Each day has an 8 am start or a 12 noon start. We
really need students to sign up in advance to know how many to expect, so
follow the URL below to sign up. The GoogleSheet is easy to use: just place the cursor into
the box and on the line for the day and time you want to test, and start
typing.
If
you have questions, you can find the CCAs at the PV-TEC Building on Mon., Wed.,
and Fri., or at Century on Tuesday / Thursday. Please keep in mind that we are
helping to proctor AP exams until May 11th, so we are sometimes
going to be tied up doing that.
The
time to take ALEKS is in the spring. Learning loss over the summer, and
disappointing ALEKS scores, can prevent some students from earning dual credit.

Be
careful out there, everyone. We go forward.
