Dear Highland Students & Families, Below are some items of interest. Read up and make note. Bengal Bridge Info Tonight – March 13th All graduating seniors are encouraged to learn more about the Bengal Bridge program at ISU tonight, Monday, March 13th, at 6 pm, in the North Salmon Room of the Pond Student Union Building. Bengal Bridge is a 7-week summer program during which students going on to college can earn 5 to 9 credits that can be used at ISU or transferred to another college. It is a way to make a strong start to full-time college and the cost is fabulous: only $65 / credit. There are all kinds of benefits to Bengal Bridge. Learn more, or apply at, https://www.isu.edu/bengalbridge/ Recap of Higher Ed Day Last Tuesday, March 7th, our juniors had the opportunity to learn about their post-secondary options. We had eleven presenters: seven colleges in Idaho, Utah State, military representatives, financial aid and scholarship experts, and folks who talked about apprenticeships and workforce readiness. And when it was all over, we asked students to complete a fast evaluation, for which we had 145 responses. Did you ask your junior student which sessions he / she attended? SATs will happen next month; juniors can use their Advanced Opportunities money to pay for an ACT (over the summer would be good). The CCAs stand ready to help juniors dive into choices and processes after high school. Below are some of our favorite responses to the evaluation: • i want to attend the open house at isu and also schedule a campus tour • I took away that you don't need knowledge before apprenticing for someone • I learned that there are more ways to get financial aid than I thought. • Talk to my parents about the military • I have a goal to go to student activities and make friends • keep my grades up and look at colleges in advance • Scholarships are important • a goal i have is to keep going because hearing all of these guys talk about how fun college is makes me have more motivation Juniors & StriveScan for College Info, College Fairs I apologize. Last week I gave you a bum stear regarding StriveScan, for which I apologize. If you are a junior student who will be looking for college information or might attend a college fair in the months ahead, then you might want to follow this URL here, at which you will register / register for a barcode. I have not registered myself, so I will wait to hear back from students that this URL did the trick. If you want to share your personal and contact information with colleges and post-secondary programs in future (for college visits or college fairs). You have the option to enroll in StriveScan. Below here are two links: 1) that describes the StriveScan platform, and 2) that takes you to the enrollment / registration page if you’re interested. Highland’s CEEB is 130498 if you decide to enroll. It is your information and your choice whether to enroll in StriveScan or not. Please Share. Senior Students & Families, Throughout Tri 3, and before you can pick up your graduation regalia, we would like you to share with the CCAs where you were awarded scholarships (all the schools and programs), from ANY source (institutions, the state of Idaho, other outside sources), and the amount of each scholarship. This includes the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship. We’re keeping a spreadsheet. The data that is collected – which reflects only institutions and other scholarship fund totals at each institution, and NO personal data – is shared with both school district administration and the State Board of Education. That data serves to support the presence of CCAs in our schools. Get us your scholarship information in any form that is easy for you (an email, a note, a scribble on a paper napkin) and we’ll enter it into our spreadsheet. This is a good exercise for seniors because listing the scholarships you earned is absolutely a resume item and an endorsement of your high school efforts, academic and otherwise. Service Academies Information Session – Saturday, April 22nd First-year, sophomore, and junior students, if you are at all interested in applying to one of the U.S. military service academies – West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy -- mark your calendar for Saturday, April 22, from 3 to 5 pm (it does NOT overlap with Bengal Visit Day) at Pocatello City Hall. Academy liaisons will be there to answer questions, guide you in earning a congressional nomination, and give you information about the timeline. Junior students should be well begun on the process at this point, but they will have the chance to meet in person with academy representatives and congressional staff member, which is a bonus. No RSVP is necessary. Ask the CCAs if you have any questions. Seniors, April 3rd => ISU Scholarship Awards Event Mark your calendars! On Monday, April 3rd, during the combined 1st hour / TA period, Idaho State University will be in Highland’s library with coffee, donuts, and beverages to formally award and recognize all our seniors who earned scholarships to ISU’s many programs and degree programs. More information will follow, but families are invited and the event will be live streamed. This is a lovely recognition of our seniors’ hard work and we are grateful to ISU for kicking off the graduation season with such a nice event. Bengal Visit Day – Saturday, April 22nd Not sure I would have put this in the blog so far in advance, but since a goodly number of our juniors indicated an interest in touring at Idaho State University, we want all our juniors and our seniors to know about Bengal Visit Day. This all-day event (8 am to 3 pm) includes sessions related to academics, clubs and organizations, campus and housing tour, and special sessions. It all wraps up with tickets to the spring football scrimmage.
