Bus Route Closures
PCSD 25 Families: With recent bus route closures and the upcoming snow season, now is a great time to make sure that you are signed up for Infinite Campus notifications. In addition to emergency notifications, Infinite Campus is the best way to monitor your child’s progress throughout the school year.
Information From the Registrar
INFINITE CAMPUS / PARENT PORTAL:
If you are not familiar with Infinite Campus and the Parent Portal or do not have your own account please contact our registrar, Elaine Whitehead, whitehel@sd25.us to get it set up. The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District is committed to providing parents with the information that they need to help their students be successful. Procedures are in place to give parents access to attendance, grades and assignments, schedules and calendars, and other school and district wide information. Parents may establish an account in the Parent Portal and will be able to access up-to-date, key information about all the students in their family.
NEED HELP UPDATING YOUR ACCOUNT WITH HHS?
If you have moved and need to update your address in Infinite Campus, please submit 2 current proofs of residency (utility bill, lease agreement, driver's license, etc.) to the registrar’s office. Highland sends out information on a regular basis to our families and it is important to us that you receive the information regarding your student and their success at Highland High School. In addition, if you need to update your phone number or email address, please call (208)237-1300 or email our registrar team at whitehel@sd25.us or schwarka@sd25.us Thank you.
MENINGOCOCCAL IMMUNIZATION BOOSTER REQUIREMENT FOR ALL SENIORS:: Idaho State Law requires that you receive a second dose of the Meningococcal vaccine you originally received to enter 7th grade. If you have not yet provided proof of compliance to the school please fax updated records to 208-237-1350 or email whitehel@sd25.us or schwarka@sd25.us ASAP. Your doctor’s office can fax records on your behalf with your permission as well. If you do not wish for your child to receive this immunization please contact the Registrar's office for an exemption form.

Dear Highland students & families,
This is the start of week 5 – remarkably. We are well underway, which is all well and good. Here’s some news for you to consider or act on or both.
Dual Credit
If you / your student are enrolled in any dual credit classes (here at Highland, at ISU, or as part of a CTE program at one of the other high schools), be sure: 1) you are fully registered and can see your name and class / classes on the BengalWeb, or on CSI’s platform, 2) be sure you have requested funds for your dual credit on Advanced Opportunities. It is important for students to take ownership of these administrative tasks. Any questions? Stop by the college career area, and we will be glad to help you.
ALEKS
Heads up! The window is closing for students to take the ALEKS assessment to meet the pre-req for some dual-credit math and science classes for this first tri-mester. If you haven’t yet met this requirement, please visit with the college career advisors to arrange a time to take it in the next week. After that, the period to register for Tri 1 classes will have passed.
Seniors / Colleges / All That Good Stuff
ð Senior students who may want to visit colleges, attend open houses or campus days (see below) are encouraged to plan those visits. We have written this before, but it bears repeating. If you want a school day to visit colleges, consider using the PSAT day – Tuesday, October 25th – to do that. Seniors are not otherwise given school excuses to visit colleges on their own, so bank your sick days (if you have to) and schedule at least one college visit for October 25th.
ð BYU-I Campus Day: Friday, October 14th
Many of our seniors apply to BYU-Idaho. Friday, October 14th, is their fall campus day for prospective students to check out the campus and attend up to six break-out sessions on a variety of topics. Students can learn more about academic programs, financial aid, housing, activities, and more. Please register in advance at the URL below.

Idaho State University
Lots going on at Idaho State for seniors and prospective students. Here goes....
· Friday, October 28, from 8:30 to 3 pm – Experience ISU. An entire day to tour campus, see housing options, learn more about academics, get questions answered about financial aid and scholarships, even earn an Educational Award of $1,000. · Wednesday, November 9th -- Health Science Experience Night, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Many Highland students are already working in the health professions and are interested in studying the health professions in college or at the career-technical level. This will be an opportunity for students to explore the various science and career pathways, meet faculty and students in ISU’s different health professions programs, even participate in a medical demonstration. ð College of Idaho visits Highland, October 21st
Casey Carmona, our admissions rep for the College of Idaho, will visit Highland on Friday, October 21st, and will be here from 12:15 to 1:30 pm that day. The College of Idaho is a 4-year college in Caldwell that offers a variety of academic programs and scholarships for everything from academics to music to athletics. It is on the Apply Idaho platform, so it is free to apply. For students who might do best in an environment with low student / teacher ratio, opportunities for involvement and leadership, and which is away (but not too far away), C of I could be just the place. ð Utah Tech Open House at Highland, Monday, October 24th
Utah Tech University (formerly Dixie State) will be hosting their SE Idaho Open House here at Highland, on Monday, October 24, 5:30 to 7 pm, in the Media Center. Utah Tech is in St. George, Utah, and has been a destination for a number of our seniors in past years. Admissions reps can help students and families navigate the first year of out-of-state tuition, the many strong academic programs they offer, how to secure housing in a hot housing market, financial aid and scholarships. Mark your calendar because it is SO convenient to have Utah Tech’s staff come to us.
We expect more schools and colleges to visit as admissions reps finalize their fall travel schedules. The college career advisors will be going into Government classrooms in October to do Apply Idaho and will surely offer events to be helpful to all our students who are looking toward college (2 or 4 years) and career technical training programs.
ACTs
Did you know that students can use their Advanced Opportunities money to pay for an ACT test? There are two more ACT offerings in 2022:
Saturday, October 22 – late registration deadline is Friday, September 30
Saturday, December 10 – regular registration deadline is Friday, November 4th
Most Highland students are accepted to college with their state SAT scores alone, but an ACT and a SAT score could be a huge help in scholarship awards. Something to think about.
BYU-I – Here Wednesday, October 5th
Jarred Brandt, Highland’s admissions representative to BYU-I, will be at Highland on Wednesday, October 5th for about two hours in the middle of the day to assist students with their BYU-I application. Jarred is a great resource and supporter of Highland and if you want some guidance, please set aside a half an hour or 45 minutes to sit with him and get your application well begun. He will be in the Media Center.
Apply Idaho
The state of Idaho platform from which senior students can apply to any or all of ten Idaho colleges or training programs opens on Monday, October 3rd, and will stay open for the entire school year. It is free. It is easy. The college career advisors will go into Government classes in October to assist and guide seniors with Apply Idaho, and call down those students who don’t have Government this trimester. Students are asked for their Social Security number, which will be directed to Financial Aid and Scholarship offices, so we are encouraging students to have that information in a password / PIN protected file in their phones.
The College Tour
Do you know about The College Tour? It is a made-for-television (or computers or phones or tablets) that profiles and tours colleges all over the country from an outside perspective. The University of Idaho, the University of Montana, Utah State, the University of Utah, and the University of Oregon have all been featured, but so have a whole bunch of other schools. What this CCA particularly likes is that The College Tour has featured a whole bunch of colleges that aren’t often in the spotlight, but which are doing good and important work (University of Maryland Baltimore County, Colorado School of Mines, Florida Tech, and others). There are filters to help you find the schools that might be right for you. Then sit back and watch. The College Tour is available on Amazon Prime: thecollegetour.com . If you want to stop by the college career area to watch an episode or two over a free hour or after school, just let us know and we’ll set you up.
