This Wednesday 4/13/22, there will be a meeting in the Highland Media Center at 7:30pm to get volunteers for the Graduates All Night Party and for Senior Dinner. Hope to see anyone there who is interested in helping plan for these events.
Here are all the important dates for graduates to make note of....
Sometime between May 2nd-6th: Caps and Gowns arrive.
Tues May 10th 11:15am:(Tentative) Senior Assembly Celebration in caps and gowns w/yearbook signing, distribution, and refreshments after.
Tues May 10th: Senior Yearbook Distribution @ Lower Gym.
Wed May 11th 9am-11am: Graduates Pictures in Cap and Gown to be displayed at Graduation.
Sat May 14th: Highland Prom @ Main Gym.
Mon May 16th 12pm: Highest Honors Luncheon @ Media Center.
Mon May 16th 7pm: National Honors Society Graduation @ Auditorium.
Thur May 26th & Fri May 27th: Senior Finals.
Fri May 27th: Seniors Last Day (unless they have makeup work to do).
Wed June 1st 6pm: Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal @ Holt Arena.
Wed June 1st 7:45pm: Graduates "Senior" Dinner and Awards @ Highland Cafeteria immediately after mandatory rehearsal.
Thur June 2nd 12pm: Graduation @ Southside of Holt Arena. Park on northside of Holt Arena, but enter and sit on southside due to renovations on northside.
Thur June 2nd 10pm-3am: Graduates All Night Party. @ Outer Limits-Cost is $50, gets you a Senior T-shirt, all you can eat, unlimited activities including laser tag, and tons of prizes being given out all night. We are in the sprint part of the school year, and we want everyone – all students, all grades, all families – to keep their eyes on the prize. Below are some items to keep in mind and some dates to put on your calendars.
INL’s K-12 STEM Bright Future in Energy Scholarship Competition is Now Open
Attention, Highland 11th and 12th grade students who are interested in pursuing a college or university education focused on energy, the environment, or protecting our nation’s critical infrastructure from cyberattacks: INL expects to award $25,000 in scholarships to multiple winners and runners-up in this science & research competition. Participating students will research one of five energy-related prompts and prepare a presentation they will give virtually to a panel of INL judges April 25-29. To be considered, students can submit their application at the URL below by April 20, and the K-12 team will contact students with next steps.

Attention, Sophomores & Some Juniors – Interested in the Military Service Academies?
Those students who have considered applying to a U.S. military academy – West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy – there will be an information meeting in Idaho Falls this coming Saturday, April 9th, from 1 – 3 pm. Admissions standards for the service academies are high and the education you might receive is, truly, incomparable. But achieving a Congressional nomination is also rigorous and only the most high-achieving students and community members should apply. This process should really begin in the sophomore year, but juniors could also attend to learn more. No RSVP is necessary. The information session will be at the College of Eastern Idaho, 1600 S. 25th East, Bldg 3, Room 306. Start the journey now, this month.
Bengal Bridge
Are you headed to college or training in the fall? Consider enrolling in Bengal Bridge at ISU this summer. It is a compressed semester in 7 weeks, students can take up 9 or 10 credits at a great price, live on or off campus, and make a soft landing to the college experience. The course offerings are introductory-level classes that should transfer to any college or training program, and will help you make a smooth transition to college whether you plan to attend a 4-year college or 2-year career/technical program. Idaho Opportunity Scholarship notifications!
The state of Idaho will begin to inform seniors students if they have earned an Idaho Opportunity Scholarship over the next two or three weeks in April.
Watch your email. Every. Single. Day.
Students will be notified by email and if they do not respond promptly to accept (or decline) the scholarship, they will be moved to a second or third round . . . by which time, the allotted money may have been claimed and awarded.
I can’t say that strongly enough: If you applied to the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship, read your email every day, and respond immediately if you have been awarded the scholarship.
Check your Financial Aid Tabs
Seniors, if you have applied to college or career technical education, look at your various Financial Aid tabs to see what your costs will be. If you are not sure what the various boxes and calculation really mean, visit your local college career advisors who will be glad to sit with you to explain and, hopefully, clarify.
Intent to enroll – May 1
Seniors, if you know where you plan to attend college or go for career technical education, those institutions would like to have your intent to enroll by May 1st.
ISU’s Bengal Visit Day – Saturday, April 23rd
For newly admitted students and their families on the Pocatello campus, Saturday, April 23, from 8 am to 2 pm. This day-long event gives admitted students the chance to tour campus, meet faculty and staff, have questions answered, and attend the spring football scrimmage. Seniors who are deciding where to attend college or training can use Bengal Visit Day to help in that process. Go to www.isu.edu/bvd to register in advance and get the day’s itinerary.
ALEKS
Students (& Families), heads up! If you plan to take dual-credit math or some few science classes next year, and it will be the first time you have taken dual-credit math or science, you will need to take an ALEKS test, which is a math assessment tool. Having completed your academic plan for 2022 – 2023, you know whether you have signed up to take dual-credit math or science. Talk to your math teacher this year to confirm, and then visit the college career advisors to find out when the next ALEKS assessment is being offered. One thing we know for sure: if you wait until August to take your ALEKS, we are fairly confident you won’t be happy with the results (too much learning loss over the summer).
