Highland passed our accreditation review. We are grateful to all those who participated. The accreditation team said that if there was one word they could use to describe Highland it would be family. They said all stake holders they interviewed communicated that this was the culture, from students, to parents, to faculty, to administration. All used the word "family" to describe the culture at Highland. This is the greatest compliment we could receive. We are grateful to everyone for their support and for creating and contributing to the culture of family at Highland High School.
- Tuesday 4/13 Sophomore English ISAT Test and Junior SAT Test Day.
- Freshman and Seniors will be remote learning this day, they will not need to come to school but will work from home through google classroom.
- Tuesday 4/20 Junior Science ISAT Test
It has been a little more than a month since we’ve all been back in school. It is good to have everyone back. I am available to students in every grade and will be happy to meet each student wherever he or she to answer their questions, help them with research, brainstorm work / career / college ideas. There are many resources available to Highland students; the college career area is just one.
ALEKS Testing
If you plan to take any dual-credit math next year or dual-credit science for the first time, you probably need to earn a certain score on the ALEKS assessment to meet the pre-req. Talk to your math teacher this tri or your guidance counselor to confirm. Some of this year’s math teachers will be administering ALEKS next month, and the college career advisor will offer ALEKS after school on Monday, April 19th (one week from today) and Monday, April 26th. Students NEED to sign up with either their math teacher or the college career advisor. Please.
And then, students have to apply to ISU’s Early College Program (ECP) and turn in required paperwork. Just ask, and we will be glad to help you.
Seniors Going on a Mission . . .
1) If you can see
college or career technical education in your future, make those applications
now. Otherwise, you may be trying to coordinate applications from another time
zone or country and it could complicated. Apply now, using Apply Idaho or the
Common Application for some schools, and it will be free.
2) Request transcripts for the schools and programs to which you have applied. Free now; each one costs you money after graduation.
You can make your re-entry after mission smoother and less stressful by taking these two simple steps now. Let the college career person help.
Summer work – Resume, References?
All students, we hope that there will be more job opportunities for you all this summer, as more public-facing businesses and organizations re-open and folks get vaccinated. Do you have a basic or boilerplate resume? Do you have the names (and all the contact information) for at least two people (not family members) who will serve as a reference for you on a job application? Be thinking about both of these items now and visit the college career person if you’d like some help or guidance.
Seniors + Financial Aid
Seniors, if you are planning on two or four years of college or career technical education, hopefully you have completed your FAFSA and applied for scholarships. Have you reviewed your financial aid award at each school? Do you know the process by which you accept or defer aid or scholarships? Do not delay in accepting your financial aid, and if you have any questions, stop by the college career area.
WATCH your e-mail for Scholarship Awards
Did you apply to the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship or other scholarships? Please be heads up and watch your e-mail (probably your personal e-mail) for notification of any such awards. Most scholarship organizations will notify you by e-mail and then ask you to respond within a matter of days or a week at most. If you do not respond, your award will go to someone else. So please please please, from now until you start college or training in the fall, look at your e-mail everyday (both your in-box and your spam folders) for any scholarship notifications. And then respond promptly!!!!
FAFSA Completions
The
numbers, as of 12 April 2021:
- 157 Highland students have submitted their
FAFSAs
- 151 of those FAFSAs were complete
- 40 percent completion rate
How
about 50 percent? Can we get to 50 percent? That would be 37 more completed
FAFSAs.
If you started your FAFSA, but did not finish it, please stop by the college career area and we will be glad to help.
Two More Deadlines
- FAFSA: 30 June 2021, for the 2021-2022 school
year, is the priority deadline
- Apply Idaho: the free application portal is open for the 2021-2022 school year until 30 June 2021
NOTE:
Many schools, states, and educational budgets are a diminishing pot. The sooner
you complete your FAFSA and apply for financial aid, the more likely you are to
be awarded financial aid.
When: Wednesday the 26th. (Yes, this is the day before graduation. Lagoon is closed on Friday)
Time: 7:00 am departure. Lagoon closes at 4:00pm. We will return back around 7pm.
Where: Meet the buses in student parking lot at Highland High.
Cost: $45 per student and chaperones need to pay as well. Please make sure to specify your students name when purchasing ticket.
The students or parents can pay via check or Venmo.

We need to have them specify it is for their LAGOON TICKET and not for donations.
Lagoon will be sending out our tickets about 3-4 weeks in advance. We need to get the kids to help advertise because we want lots of kids to be able to go. They can do this through social media, word of mouth, even some posters throughout the school.
Food venues will be open throughout the park but we will also have an area where they can bring food. We, as parents/chaperones, will be there to stay with their stuff and also be there incase of any emergencies or if the kids need a source of contact.
If you or your student has a season pass to Lagoon, you need to check with Lagoon if they will honor it due to the fact it is a “student day” for students only and the tickets are at a discounted rate. I left a message with Lagoon but I have not heard back. If you need the bus pass only it will be $10.
Donations: We need help with reaching out to people and businesses!!!! Does anyone have any updates? If anyone has any connections please let us know so we can reach out. Our breakfast options and raffle prizes depend on what we can afford. We need to start collecting as soon as possible.

We need baby pictures!!!
We have Chloe Stoddart doing our senior class video. All senior pictures have been received but we would like baby pictures to add to it. Please submit their baby pictures with their names and include any fun student body videos or pictures. We realize that there were not a lot of opportunities for these types of pictures or videos but if you have something along this line, please send it.

We had the opportunity to speak to administration and get approved to make sure we would be able to continue with our breakfast in the cafeteria at Highland. Would anyone like to be in charge of decorations or know of any options regarding table cloths or other fun ideas? We need volunteers to help with decorating and set up and take down along with serving food and helping with the raffle. Please let me know what you would like to help with.
Raffle: We will be doing a raffle for the students. This is usually done at the all Night Party but, since we are doing Lagoon, we want to make this happen at the breakfast. We need to try and get as many gifts donated as we possibly can. Gift cards, actual gifts, or services are great examples of things we need.
Please know that our biggest need is for donations and raffle prizes. We welcome any support, or fun ideas.
Next parent meeting will be APRIL 12th at 7pm in Highland Media center.
The counseling center has started a google classroom in order to make accessing information and resources easier. The classroom code is C22SK7K.
There is a specific counselor's google classroom for information for graduates. The classroom code for graduates is 3BWSNGP.
