· Seniors do you qualify to be a STEM graduate? To qualify you must earn a minimum of 8 credits in math, 8 credits in science, and 5 additional credits of your choice in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. All STEM graduates will receive recognition on their diploma, transcript, and in the 2021 graduation program. In addition, for the first time ever, you will receive cords to wear with your cap and gown to recognize this achievement. Currently HHS has 62 Seniors who will qualify by the end of this trimester. If you are not sure if you do, or want to check your status see the registrar or your counselor. Juniors and Sophomores start thinking now what classes you need to plan for now to earn this honor!
· Seniors if you have not already ordered your graduation cap and gown and plan to walk at graduation on May 27, 2021 you need to do so ASAP by ordering at www.hjgrads.com. You can contact Highland’s Herff Jones representative Lane Larsen if you have any questions - llarsen@herffjones.com
· Parents, if you are not familiar with Infinite Campus and the Parent Portal or do not have your own account please contact our registrar, Elaine Whitehead, whitehel@sd25.us to get it set up. The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District is committed to providing parents with the information that they need to help their students be successful. Procedures are in place to give parents access to attendance, grades and assignments, schedules and calendars, and other school and district wide information. The Infinite Campus Student Data System provides a comprehensive Parent Portal. Parents may establish an account in the Parent Portal and will be able to access up-to-date, key information about all the students in their family beginning the first day of the school year. Attendance and grades will be available as soon as possible after the opening of school. Other information will be added to the portal during the school year and there may be some delay in information being posted/updated as it will depend on each individual teacher.
· As we near the end of the second trimester we ask that you please log into your account and double check that your phone number, email, and address are current. If not please contact our registrar’s office for help on how to update this information in our system so we can ensure you stay informed.
Girls District Basketball Tournament is underway. Highland starts at Madison on Tuesday 2/2/21 at 7pm. On Thursday 2/4/21 at 7pm the winner of Highland v. Madison will move on to play Thunder Ridge while the loser of Highland v. Madison plays the loser between Idaho Falls and Rigby. Please contact the school for fan restrictions for visiting teams. Good Luck Lady Rams!!

Dear Highland Students & Families,
It is already February. Not sure if you feel a sense of urgency, but the college career advisors sure do. Please read below about a variety of topics that apply to students in all four grades at Highland. The college career advisors stand ready to help.
Career Fair, Feb. 11th
The state of Idaho is organizing a virtual career fair for all students aged 13 and older next Thursday, February 11th from 8:30 am to 4 pm. We understand and appreciate that this timeframe is right smack in the middle of the school day. If you are an A day student, it should be possible for you to log on from home or your virtual school location, but if you are a B day student, this will be trickier. We encourage students to problem-solve and advocate for themselves: they could log on during lunch time, ask a teacher if they could participate in the last half hour of class if all work is done and turned in, or other creative solutions. The process of thinking and reflecting on possible careers is always a valuable exercise. We hope Highland students will participate.

Scholarships
When students and families hear the word “scholarship,” they tend to think of learners who are the top of their class, earn As, or take the most challenging classes. W R O N G ! ! Colleges, universities, and career-technical programs offer scholarship monies to students of every kind, rank, stripe, and program goal. Please stop by the college career area and we will give you guidance about looking for, and applying to, scholarships. Do NOT leave money on the table.
Not Too Late to Apply to College / Training Programs
True, it is February – already. But it is not too late to apply to college (2 years or 4 years) or career-technical programs. For real. Visit with the college career advisors and we will help you make applications to Idaho schools and programs on the Apply Idaho platform or out-of-state schools. The rest of the school year will go by in a shot, so complete your applications while you have support and guidance, and so you are a person with options as we get closer to graduation.
Let Us Know if You Received ANY Scholarship Monies !
We are starting to maintain a spreadsheet of scholarships that have been offered to our seniors who have been accepted to college or career technical education programs. Please stop by with a list of scholarships you have been awarded (automatic scholarships, merit scholarships, program scholarships, local or state scholarships – any scholarship), and we will mark you down (for our reference only; information will not be shared). It’s not that we’re competitive or anything, but we will be happy to announce at the end of the school year the total amount of scholarship monies Highland students have be granted because of their hard work, focus, and goals.
FAFSA Submitted Yet?
Have you completed your FAFSA? If you are planning to attend a college or career-technical program after graduation, you have to submit your FAFSA to be considered for financial aid and scholarship. Two -tep process: 1) the student and, if necessary, a family member establish an FSA ID (go to this URL: https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm ), and after that is done, 2) complete your FAFSA (go to this URL: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa ). Let the college career advisors know if you would like help with the FAFSA process.

- Approximately 197 seniors have requested that 545
transcripts be sent so far (excellent! That is 58 percent of our senior
class who have requested at least one transcript).
- FAFSA completion? Not so great. Only 33 percent of our seniors have completed their FAFSA. What the heck?! Again, not to suggest that we are competitive, but one of the other Pocatello high schools has a higher completion rate than ours, and one has a slightly lower. As much as we can encourage you, please try to get the FAFSA ticked off your to-do list.

Construction Combine
ISU’s College of Technology and local businesses will be holding its annual Construction Combine on March 31 and April 1st. Only 6 students from each high school will be accepted. Applications are required. Follow this URL: constructioncombine.org

young women and men to try out entry-level construction work. Gives an inside
look at the building trades, construction management, and human resource
supervision. Could also lead to a great-paying summer job. Apply now.
