The School Board meets tomorrow, Tuesday 1/5/21, to review our current hybrid school schedule and to make a decision if we continue with this current model or make changes.

The IHSAA made a proposal to the Governor of Idaho and it was approved that 2 spectators per participating athlete can attend both home and away events with some restrictions. Masks are required and 12 feet social distancing between those attending from different households. Also, 6 Cheerleaders are allowed for home events and 2 spectators per cheerleader. Normal entry fees will apply for spectators which is $6 per spectator. Only IHSAA passes will be honored to get spectators in at events without paying the entry fee. Lifetime passes and other courtesy passes will not be accepted at this time. Please contact Highland Athletic Director Travis Bell for other details.

Congratulations to our 91 newly inducted National Honor Society members at Highland High School. We have 16 new Juniors and 75 sophomores. Acceptance letters have already been sent. Happy New Year, Everyone –
We hope that the holiday break gave you all some respite and time to reflect on the past year and all our hopes for the time ahead. Below are some tidbits from the college / career advisors.
Ø Seniors who applied to college and / or training. Please check your e-mail to see if you’re admitted. If so, follow the directions to establish an account, which will gain you access to financial aid, scholarships, and other good stuff. Do not delay.
Ø All seniors should be looking for scholarships like it’s their job – which it is. We are maintaining a binder with scholarship announcements as we receive them, and we can guide you to the scholarship pages of any college to which you’ve been accepted. Scholarship and financial aid monies are a diminishing pot – the sooner you apply for financial aid and scholarships, the more likely those monies will come your way.
Ø Any student taking dual enrollment: Please please please be sure you are 1) registered for the course (just ask us if you are not sure how to confirm this) and 2) be sure you have requested your state funding through Advanced Opportunities. Otherwise, you and your family will get a bill, which is a drag.
Ø ISU’s College
of Technology and local businesses will be holding its annual Construction Combine on March 31
and April 1st. Only 6 students from each high school will be
accepted. Applications are required. Follow this URL: constructioncombine.org
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Apply Here.” The Construction Combine is a great opportunity for young women and men to try out entry-level construction work. Gives an inside look at the building trades, construction management, and human resource supervision. Could also lead to a great-paying summer job. Apply now.
Ø Career Exploration! There will be a virtual career exploration fair on Thursday, February 11th, from 8:30 to 4 p.m. for any Idaho student aged 13 or older. This is NOT to add pressure to an already stressful school year, but to allow our middle and high school students to consider their gifts, their goals, and what kind of work might give them satisfaction. The counseling center has started a google classroom in order to make accessing information and resources easier. The classroom code is C22SK7K.
There is a specific counselor's google classroom for information for graduates. The classroom code for graduates is 3BWSNGP.
Any Juniors and Seniors interested in taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery assessment can sign up through the counselor's google classroom. The exam is a heavily researched and well-respected career inventory and aptitude test from the Department of Defense. It is used for the Armed Forces, but it is a beneficial exam for all students regardless of their intent or interest with the military. The exam date is 12/4/20 at 11am at Highland High School.
Students interested in joining the Haywire Robotics Team, the information is available on the counselor's google classroom.
