Our Highland Parent Advisory Group met on 12/4/18 and established goals to pursue. The agenda for the meeting and the minutes are included here=

A big thank you from Mrs. Velda Smith and her Junior Civitan Club to all who participated in our food drive before Thanksgiving. Our school was able to help 2 local food banks. $664.76 went to the Idaho Food Bank, and 2,158 cans were given to the Salvation Army food pantry. Both agencies were very appreciative. The senior class collected the most cans and money for a total of 1931, followed by the junior class who collected 964. The sophomore class collected 591 items and finally the freshmen class collected 9 cans.
Also, a big thank you to the Human Rights/GSA club who decorated and is donating two Christmas trees this holiday season. They are also throwing an all-high school holiday pizza party at 355 W. Lander on Tuesday 12/11/18, from 6-8pm. Check out the flier for more information=
Highland Boys Basketball will be putting on their annual fundraiser, Holiday Youth Basketball Tournament, on December 28th and 29th for 4th-8th Graders @ Highland. $220 per team with a 3 game guarantee. Call or Text Coach Pearson if interested (208)251-4823. Here is the form with more details=

More than $40
billion dollars in financial aid and scholarships are awarded to students
across the country each year. But students who don’t take the first step
(filling out the FAFSA) won’t be considered for assistance. To date, just under
24% of our current cohort have completed and submitted their applications.

College & Career Advisers will be offering drop in hours for FAFSA help,
Scholarships, College Applications etc. will be held Wednesday December 12th
& 19th from 4-6pm in room C36.
UI launches durable
admissions policy
This fall, the University of Idaho announced its new “durable
admissions” policy, which allows students to defer enrollment for up to four
years after admission to the school. Acknowledging the varied paths students
take from high school to arriving at college, UI hopes to keep the door to
higher education open for those who choose military or missionary service or
decide to save money by working before going on to college. In a recent
newsletter, Newsletter, President Chuck Staben emphasized U of I’s commitment
to serve “those who serve their nation, their faith, their communities and
their families,” saying “You were qualified once, your ensuing life experience
only makes you more qualified, so you’re in.” (nextsteps.idaho.gov)

Monday, December 3rd, TA teachers discussed this month’s sexual
harassment lessons. Please feel free to contact Tricia Harvala or Cali Baker in
the Counseling Center with questions.
We had
18 juniors and seniors choose to take the ASVAB and the results should be
available next week and will be discussed with these students.
The
ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP ) can help you take steps now toward
finding a career that’s right for you. You can benefit from the ASVAB CEP
regardless of your plans for after high school. This test is not just for
students who are contemplating military enlistment. The ASVAB will help
you to understand your skills, abilities, and interests that will ultimately
guide you to make the best decisions about your future.
BYU-Idaho will be at HHS tomorrow, December 11th,
to help seniors with the application process. Please sign up in the Counseling
Center to attend.

with your senior students if they have applied for apprenticeships, college,
the military etc. so that you can help them with the next steps in the process.

deadline for scholarships is fast approaching. If your student is wanting to go
