Dear Parent/Guardian, Student, and Highland Ram Supporter,
We are so proud of our students, parents, and other community members! This last week for the food drive Highland was able to collect over 16,000 items to be donated to local food banks and pantries. This is a new record! Many people will be blessed from this generosity during the holiday season. Highland students took it upon themselves to dig and bag donated potatoes, reach out to local businesses, and donate items themselves. It is humbling to see the spirit of giving and charity that exists within our Highland students, parents, and our community. We are so grateful to those businesses in the community who gave to the food drive including Costco, Swore Farms, Costa Vida, Texas Roadhouse, Sandpiper, Buffalo Wild Wings, The Popcorn Shop, Varsity Cleaners, Bilo's Food Market, Rosemark, Mama Inez, Senior Iguanas, Jack in the Box, The Bridge, Deleta, Advantage Plus, Butter Burrs, Ferenger Farms, Smiths, D.L. Evans Bank, Pizza Pie Cafe, Amy's Kitchen, and Idaho Central Credit Union. Thank you also to Junior Civitan, Mrs. Velda Smith, Ms. Fleischman, and the United States Army for helping organize this event.
We also wanted to thank Highland student Michael Buttars, and those who helped him, with his Eagle Project painting the old green box car in the Highland student parking lot. The new black, red, and white look great! Thanks again and congratulations on earning your Eagle Scout Award!
Reminder to students and parents that we do have finals this week, finishing up the first trimester. The expectation is that students will remain in class during finals and will not be able to checkout during class time. This time has been reserved for students to complete finals and will be protected as such. This will minimize distractions and create the best possible environment for assessment. All the high schools in the district seek academic excellence and creating an appropriate environment for assessment is essential in helping students perform at their best.
The question then becomes, "Can I check my student out during finals?" The answer is, not during class time. If there is an emergency then school administration will determine how to respond and will work with those involved. Dental appointments or other doctor appointments do not count as emergencies and the school expectation is that these appointments will need to be rescheduled when they do not infringe on the time dedicated for finals. Please call the school and speak with school administration with questions or concerns.

Reminder to parents and students, tutoring will be available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school from 4-5:30 this week. Please see the academic calendar for room numbers. If students fail a class during the school year, they may not be able to retake that class again during the year. With 1600 students, class sizes are often full and adding a student who already took the class may not be a possibility. Students who fail a class, may be required to attend summer school to make it up. If the student is a senior then they will not be able to walk with their class during graduation.
Great job by our District Swim Team who competed at state this week! For results please check the following website=http://www.offtheblocks.org/idahohighschoolswimming/State_Championship.php. We are proud of their amazing season and we are excited to see this program grow and compete at high levels. Also, congratulations to our football team winning in the Quarter Finals against Capital last week. This week they will be playing at 7pm on Friday in the Semi-Finals at Rocky Mountain High School in Boise. If they win they will be in the state championship in the Holt Arena playing the winner of Coeur d'Alene v. Mountain View. GO RAMS!

Be sure and purchase your $2 Ticket or Tickets for the Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello Raffle benefiting Athletics and Activities. Last year a Pocatello High School parent won a brand new Dodge Dart all expenses paid including taxes. Over $56,000 was raised for school activities in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District in last years raffle. Support athletics and activities again this year and buy raffle tickets for $2 for the chance to win a new Jeep Renegade worth $25,000 donated by Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can buy. All expenses for the car are covered, including taxes. All proceeds go to school athletics and activities. Tickets are on sale until May 21, 2018 and the drawing will take place at the new Lithia Dealership in Pocatello on May 31, 2018.
