HHS April 10-April 17 Letter from Administration


Dear Parent/Guardian, Student, and Highland Ram Supporter,

Congratulations to Highland Speech for taking 2nd in state.  We are so proud of these students and Coach Robin Christensen for all the hard work and the success they were able to accomplish this season.  

At Highland we believe deeply in preparing our students academically for whatever their goals may be for their future.  

On Tuesday April 11th at 8:25am this week all Juniors will be taking the SAT.  It is important they make their attendance and diligent participation a top priority as it is a requirement for graduation and essential for college and career readiness.  Please do not bring a cell phone or other electronic device or any food/beverage to testing.  Just bring 2, #2 pencils and a calculator.  The school will provide snacks during scheduled breaks and will provide a pizza lunch once testing is completed.  Upon completion Juniors are done for the day and can go home.  Please call the school with any questions or concerns.

Junior SAT Day  Schedule
8:25am Juniors arrive to their assigned room organized by TA.
8:30am-Begin Testing (There will be 1, 10 minute and 2, 5 minute breaks.  The school will provide oranges, fruit snacks, string cheese, granola bars, etc. for snacks during these breaks as students will not be able to eat lunch until after testing).
1:30pm Testing completed.  Juniors are done for the day and can go home.  Domino’s pizza lunch will be provided for them before they leave in the commons area.

What to Bring:
Two No. 2 pencils with erasers and a calculator.
If You Bring or Use Prohibited Devices
The test administration staff is encouraged to collect and hold phones and other prohibited electronic devices during the test administration, including break periods, or to deny admission to anyone who is in possession of a prohibited electronic device.

If your device makes noise or you are seen using it at any time, including during breaks, you may be dismissed immediately, your scores can be canceled, and the device may be confiscated and its contents inspected. The College Board is not responsible for loss or damage to personal items, including electronic devices, while you are in the test center.
An approved calculator:
Bring your own calculator. You can’t share one.
Don’t bring a brand-new calculator. Bring one you know. Practice for the test using the same calculator you’ll use on test day.
The Math Test includes some questions where it’s better not to use a calculator, even though you’re allowed to.
It may help to do scratch work in the test book. Get your thoughts down before using your calculator.
Make sure your calculator is in good working order and that batteries are fresh. The test center will not have batteries or extra calculators. If your calculator fails during testing and you have no backup, you'll have to complete the test without it.
Unacceptable Calculators
You are not allowed to use any of the following items as a calculator:

  • Laptops or other computers, tablets, cell phones, or smartphones
  • Models that can access the Internet, have wireless, Bluetooth, cellular, audio/video recording and playing, camera, or any other smart phone type feature
  • Models that have typewriter-like keypad, pen-input, or stylus
  • Models that use electrical outlets, make noise, or have a paper tape
  • Calculator function on a mobile phone
  • In addition, the use of hardware peripherals such as a stylus with an approved calculator is not permitted. Some models with touch-screen capability are not permitted (e.g., Casio ClassPad). Check the list of acceptable calculators for models tha

Seniors do not have school on Tuesday April 11th.  This is an opportunity for them to visit colleges/job sites, fill out applications to colleges/jobs, register for colleges/internships, and prepare for other post secondary plans and goals they may have.

In addition to our belief and dedication to academics, we also believe that our students need to learn the value and importance of selfless service.  Each year we plan opportunities for students to give to the  community and developing this into a habit for their life. 

On Tuesday April 11th Freshman and Sophomores will be participating in a day of service.  We will be reading with students at some of the elementary schools, working at the Portneuf Wellness Complex, and working at the Highland Golf Course.  The service students are participating in is organized by TA.  If their TA is working at the Portneuf Wellness Complex or the Highland Golf Course please have students dress to be outside as it may be chilly and bring work gloves.  If the students who have the following TA's could also bring a rake  that would be appreciated as we will be using it at the Highland Golf Course:
