HHS January 10-14, 2017 Letter from Administration
Dear Parent/Guardian, Student, and Highland Ram Supporter,
We hope that everyone enjoyed their winter break. This weather has been crazy! We thank you for adjusting to the circumstances mother nature has dealt us. Despite the weather some of our students have been back at work, or never stopped working. Our girls basketball team had an amazing win against Minico and our boys basketball team played their hearts out beating Pocatello High School. The Speech and Debate team has also been busy by taking 5th at the Black Snake tournament at ISU. The Speech and Debate program was also awarded the 2015-16 Leading Chapter Award in the Idaho Mountain River District. This is the highest award you can receive from the National Speech and Debate Association. We are so proud of our Speech and Debate students and our coach-Robin Christensen. Wrestling has also been busy. They are undefeated in duals, took 2nd at the Wiley Dobbs Tournament and recently beat Preston High School 84-3 and Century High School 84-6. Our choir went on a tour in Salt Lake City for a couple of days singing at different locations. Casting and rehearsals for a production of Julius Cesear has begun as well. Band has been practicing, preparing for an upcoming competition on January 24th in Rigby. Beyond this, our students involved in clubs have also been busy at work.
We are so proud of all the hard work our students and their coaches dedicate and how they represent Highland High School. We appreciate each of you who put in countless hours and make personal sacrifices to support our students at Highland High School.
We mentioned in a previous newsletter that as a faculty we are doing a book study of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success written by Dr. Carol Dweck. In this book, Dr. Dweck explains that each of us has 2 main mindsets-fixed and growth. A fixed mindset believes that abilities, intelligence, and talents are fixed. A growth mindset believes that abilities, intelligence, and talents can grow with hard work and dedicated effort. More important is how each of the mindsets responds to failure.
Part of our professional development time has been dedicated to building the growth mindset within ourselves. It also has been dedicated to learning how to build the growth mindset within our students at Highland High School. We have been using some of our advisory time on Monday's to teach and instill the growth mindset.
We are so excited to see the change in mindsets around the school by students and faculty. This propels learning forward and lays a foundation for a successful life.
Thank you for all you do. We love our students at Highland High School. They truly are excellent.

Family Events/Activities Passes available for $130. This gets you and your entire immediate family (except high school students-they must buy their own activity card) into any home event for the entire school year. This does NOT include Holt Arena.
Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello Raffle for Athletics and Activities: Support athletics and activities and buy raffle tickets for $2 for the chance to win a new Dodge Dart worth $25,000 donated by Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pocatello. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can buy. All expenses for the car are covered, including taxes. All proceeds go to school athletics and activities. Tickets are on sale until March 24, 2017 and the drawing will take place at the new Lithia Dealership in Pocatello on March 31, 2017. creek Nordic center to give cross country skiing a try!
The cost will be $8 dollars and includes a trail pass /
ski rental and a 2 hour group lesson. We will car pool to the center and you
should bring a lunch. Sign up in Mr. Sullivan's room B74. We need a minimum of
15 people for this trip.
